Indian Engineering Services (IES) or Engineering Services Examination (ESE) comprise of engineers who work under the government of India and designated as Class – 1 officer. They administer a large segment of the public sector economy, which constitutes of Indian Railways, Power, Telecommunications, Central Water engineering, Defence service of Engineers, Central Engineering Service, namely.
The nature of work performed by these bureaucrats largely depends on their engineering branch and the service or cadre they are recruited in. The career progression goes smoothly attaining high esteem. The first position offered is that of Asst. Executive engineer and the hierarchy ends at the position of Chairman/ Managing Director.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has issued a notification announcing Engineering Services Exam 2019 examination dates and procedure for filling up applications for engineering positions in various departments of the central government. The Online Applications can be filled from 26th September 2018 to 22nd October 2018 till 6.00 PM after which the link will be disabled.
The Engineering Services Prelims examination is going to be held on January 6, 2019, and the Main will be conducted on June 30, 2019.
The number of vacancies to be filled on the results of the examination is expected to be approximately 581 including 34 vacancies for the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwD) (23 vacancies for Locomotor Disability including Cerebral Palsy, Leprosy cured, Dwarfism, Acid Attack victims and Muscular Dystrophy & 11 vacancies for Hard of Hearing). The number of vacancies is liable to alteration.

A combined competitive examination is conducted by the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services. The Examination constitutes of a written examination followed by an interview for the personality test. The recruitment of qualified candidates is made under the following categories:
The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfil all eligibility conditions for admission to the examination. Their admission at all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.

A candidate must be either:
(a) a Citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
A candidate must have:
A candidate for this examination must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the 1st August, of the exam year.
The upper age limit of 30 years will be relaxable up to 35 years in the case of Government servants of the following categories, if they are employed in a Department/Office under the control of any of the authorities mentioned in column 1 below and apply for admission to the examination for all or any of the Service(s)/Posts mentioned in column 2, for which they are otherwise eligible.
A candidate who has been continuously in a temporary service on a regular basis in the particular mentioned below Department/Office for at least 3 years on August 1, 2019.

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the final results for the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2018. The final results are available on the UPSC's official website and those who appeared for this can access the results on the same. A total of 511 candidates have been recommended for appointment.
According to the press note released by the UPSC, 161 candidates are selected for civil engineering, 136 for mechanical engineering, 108 for electrical engineering and 106 candidates for electronics and telecommunications engineering. The commission has also kept a total of 50 candidates on provisional criterion.
The press release states that ''The offer of appointment to the candidates, whose result has been kept provisional will not be issued till the Commission verifies the original documents (awaited from such candidates) and clears their provisional status. The provisionality of these candidates will remain valid only for a period of three months [i.e. upto 11/02/2019] from the date of declaration of final result.''
UPSC conducted the Engineering Services Examination in July and interviews for the personality round were held in the months of September and October 2018.12 November 2018
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has started the online application withdrawal facility for Engineering Service Exam (ESE) 2019. Candidates who have registered for the UPSC ESE can withdraw their applicants until November 5, 2018.
In order to withdraw the application, candidates should use the registration number. An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number. One who submits the OTP is only eligible to withdraw the application. If a candidate has submitted multiple application forms, the higher registration ID will be considered for withdrawal facility.
Once the application withdrawal has been completed, the confirmation page will be sent to the registered email ID and mobile number. However, the application fee will not be refunded and candidates cannot revive the withdrawn application.
UPSC has released ESE 2019 recruitment notification for a total of 581 vacancies. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will be closing the application window for Indian Engineering Services (IES) or Engineering Services Examination (ESE) on October 22. Candidates who aim to work under the government of India as the Class - 1 engineering officers can apply for the ESE before 6:00 PM. The qualified candidates will be placed at various departments of the public sector.
Candidates are required to apply online by using the official website of UPSC. The application fee for the ESE is INR 200 and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PH and all females are exempted from fee payment. Read the IES application procedure and the steps to apply online here.
The constitutional body, UPSC, has released the recruitment notification for more than 580 vacancies for categories – electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering and electronics & telecommunication engineering. Candidates who have successfully submitted the application form will be issued an e-admission certificate or admit card for the preliminary and main examination. In a revolutionary move, UPSC has introduced the facility of withdrawal of Application for those candidates who do not want to appear for the IES Examination 2019. The Commission has provided the withdrawal facility from September 29, 2018, to October 05, 2018 (till 6.00 PM).
Before making the request for withdrawal, the candidate must ensure that they have access to the registered mobile number and email-id which were provided by them at the time of submission of application. Separate OTPs will be sent on the registered mobile number and email-id. Request for withdrawal will be accepted only after it is confirmed by validating the OTP details sent on the candidate’s mobile and email-id which will be valid for 30 Minutes only.
There is no provision for withdrawing of incomplete applications and no provision to refund any fee amount paid by candidates.
