What is CAPF - AC Exam?

The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) refers to the uniform nomenclature of seven security forces in India under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs. They are the Assam Rifles (AR), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), National Security Guard (NSG), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Recruitment is conducted mainly in three modes

  • Gazetted Officers: Officers in CAPFs are recruited through the Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination conducted by UPSC. 
  • Subordinate Officers: Sub Inspectors are recruited through competitive examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission and they are referred as DASOs (Directly Appointed Subordinate Officers). 
  • Constables: Constables are recruited through competitive examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission.

CAPF AC's 2020

The CAPF AC's 2020 exam notification will release by the Union Public Service Commission. This year there are 398 total vacancies are released for Assistant Commandants (ACs) Posts in the Central Armed Police Forces.

The examination will be held on August 09, 2020, in accordance with the rules for the examination published by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Gazette of India.

Their admission at all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.

CAPF Notification 2020

The UPSC has released the CAPF Assistant Commandant (AC) recruitment notification for a total of 323 vacancies. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria set by the Commission can apply online for the Assistant Commandant posts. Interested aspirants can apply online for CAPF AC until May 12, 2020.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Nationality:

    No person who is not a citizen of India shall, except with the consent of the Central Government signified in writing be appointed or employed under these Rules.

    Provided that nothing contained in these rules shall debar the appointment, enrolment or employment of a subject of Nepal or Bhutan under these Rules.

    Sex:

    Both Male and Female candidates are eligible for appointment to the post of Assistant Commandants.

  2. Educational Qualification:

    Here are the certain educational qualifications that the applicants must possess to be eligible for CAPF:

    • As part of UPSC CAPF Eligibility Criteria, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a government recognised university. The University should be incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India
    • Other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 are also acceptable
    • Those candidates, who have appeared in the qualifying examination and have yet not got their results, can also apply for CAPF Exam. But, it must be kept in mind that the admission would be provisional until the candidate produces proof of passing the examination after qualifying the entrance test of CAPF
  3. Age Limit :

    • The candidate must have acquired a minimum age of 20 years. The upper age limit of the candidate must be 25 years. However, the upper age limit up to a maximum of five years can be relaxed for candidates belonging to SC/ST category
    • Up to a maximum of three years for the candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes can be relaxed
    • The candidate who wishes to apply for CAPF 2020 must be an Indian national. Both female and male candidates can apply for the CAPF exam. There are different medical standards set by UPSC to apply for the desired post through UPSC CAPF 2020
    • The candidates who have already been once selected on the basis of the CAPF exam earlier cannot apply for the exam

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assistant Commandant (AC) lead a company of around 150 armed personnel, which is deployed for conducting elections and maintaining normalcy, apart from the original mandates of border guarding and guarding the industrial corridors (CISF). Though CRPF is one such force which is directly involved in law and order maintenance and assisting the local administration in maintaining the local order
  • The Assistant Commandant has to perform functions like planning and conduct of operations, ensuring on the job training to keep the Company in the constant state of operational preparedness for the requirement in any situation, organizing independent intelligence network for operational efficiency, ensuring efficacy and serviceability of armaments in the Company.
Government Plans To Merge CAPF With Civil Services

The Government is drafting the plans to change the scheme of CAPF exam. It is also planning to merge the CAPF Officer recruitment with the Civil Services Examination (CSE). The Government had granted the Organised Group A Service (OGAS) categorisation to Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) that include CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB. 

The Government is busy with a high-level discussion regarding the change of the scheme and syllabus of the Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandant) exam. The recruitment test is being conducted by the UPSC since 2003 for recruiting officers.  

It is to be noted that the government has not taken any decision yet regarding merge. The Civil Services 2020 exam notification was released on February 12. The exam will be held on May 31. The CAPF 2020 notification will be released on April 22.

UPSC CAPF 2019 Result Announced

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination 2019 result. Candidates who have appeared for the written examination on August 18 can check their result on the official site. 

The qualified candidates have to appear for Physical Standard Test/ Physical Efficiency Tests (PET) and Medical Standards Tests (MST). The Commission has released the CAPF result in both roll number and name. The online Detailed Application Form (DAF) will be available from October 30 to November 13, 2019, until 6 pm.

The CAPF Assistant Commandants exam notification was released for a total of 323 vacancies. The total number of candidates qualified in the written exam is 2215. The Commission will soon release the schedule for PET.

UPSC CAPF 2019: Raise Objections Against Paper Until August 26

The UPSC has enabled the option to challenge the question paper for wrong questions. Candidates who have appeared for the examination can challenge the paper through the official website. The Online Question Paper Representation Portal (QPRep) is active until August 26, 2019. 

The Commission conducted the CAPF examination on August 18 2019. The written test consists of two papers; objective and descriptive. The objective paper consists of 125 questions that cover sections such as General Science, Maths, Economics, Commerce etc. However, the conventional paper had covered the essay writing, report writing, precise etc.

The CAPF 2019 is conducted for 323 vacancies for the post of Assistant Commandants in various defence forces such as Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

UPSC CAPF AC Exam 2018 Final Result Announced

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) Assistant Commandant (AC) exam final result 2018. Candidates who have appeared for both written examination and personality test can check their result on the official website. 

A total of 416 candidates have been shortlisted for the appointment to various services, out of which, 178 candidates belonging to General category, 124 from OBC, 77 from SC and 37 from ST. The number of provisional candidates is 93.

The Commission had conducted the written test on August 12, 2018, and the interviews for personality test from June 24 to July 24, 2019.

UPSC Releases CAPF (AC's) Admit Card 2019 

The UPSC has released the admit card for Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandants) Examination 2019. Candidates who have registered online for the CAPF AC exam 2019 can visit the official website of UPSC to access the admit card. The admit card will be available until the exam date, i.e., August 18, 2019

Candidates can download the admit card by entering either registration or roll number. After downloading the UPSC admit card, candidates need to take a printout and carry the same to the examination centre along with a valid photo identity card for verification purpose.

Candidates have to note that in case of any discrepancy in the e-Admit Card, one should communicate the same to the Commission immediately. Aspirants are advised to read the instructions carefully on the admit card.
