The Indian Economic Service along with Indian Statistical Service is the administrative inter-ministerial civil service under Group A of the Central Civil Services of the executive branch of the Government of India.
The Indian Economic Service was introduced for formulating and implementing economic policies and programmes in India. With the initiation of large-scale economic reforms in 1991 and the proliferation of the regulatory role of the government, such analysis and advice within the domain of the service have increased manifold. For Indian Statistical Service, all statistical posts of different ministries and departments were pooled together in the initial constitution of service.
A combined competitive examination for recruitment to Junior Time Scale of the Services will be held by the Union Public Service Commission in accordance with the rules published by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation in the Gazette of India.

According to the UPSC calendar, the IES/ISS official notification will be released on March 20, 2019. Candidates who are aspiring for the Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service can start their registration from the release of official notification. The official notification will also display the total number of vacancies.

A candidate must be either:
(a) a Citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
1. For Indian Economic Service (IES):
The candidates must have obtained a Post Graduate Degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometrics from a recognized university or a foreign university approved by the Central Government of India from time to time.
2. For Indian Statistical Service (ISS):
The candidates must have obtained a Bachelor's Degree with Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics as one of the subject or else the candidates should hold a Master's degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics from a recognized university or a foreign university approved by the Central Government of India from time to time.
The candidates must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years as on August 1, 2019, i.e. he/she must have been born not earlier than August 2, 1988, and not later than August 1, 1997.
The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable as mentioned for the below categories:
IES is the gateway to the central service as Group A officers. Aspirants who successfully pass IES/ISS examination are placed in various cadre posts in the planning commission, planning board, ministry of economic affairs, national sample survey and other allied offices where specialists in economics and statistics are required.
The posts are primarily located in Ministries/ Departments dealing with economic and social sectors. Besides Cadre posts, IES officers go on deputation to serve in various domestic and international organizations such as UN bodies, foreign governments, state governments and regulatory bodies. Officers from the service are also appointed on deputation to posts in the Central Ministries/ Departments under the Central Staffing Scheme.
The places of posting are usually in the State capitals or New Delhi. A candidate selected at a favorable age can expect to rise quite high in the career and touch the level of even Secretary to the Government of India, in any Ministry concerned with economic affairs.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the admit cards for Indian Economic Service (IES) and Indian Statistical Service (ISS) examination 2019. Candidates who have registered online for the IES/ISS examination can download the admit card from the Commission's official website.
Candidates should submit their registration id or roll number to download the IES/ISS admit card 2019. After downloading the IES/ISS admit card 2019, one should check their details meticulously. Candidates have to carry a printout of IES/ISS e-admit card 2019 at the venue of the examination.
The Commission will be held the IES/ISS written examination from June 28 to 30, 2019. The test will be held at 19 centres. Candidates are advised to preserve the admit card until the final result. This year, IES/ISS notification was released for a total of 65 vacancies.10 June 2019
The UPSC has released the schedule for the Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination 2019. Candidates who have registered online for the examination are advised to check the dates.
According to the official sources, the examination will be held between June 28 to 30, 2019. The written examination consists of six papers. The morning paper will be held from 9 AM to 12 Noon. The afternoon paper will be held from 2 PM to 5 PM.
The General English and General Studies papers are common for both IES and ISS examination 2019. The written exam results will be released in August. The 2019 notification was released for a total of 32 (IES) and 33 (ISS).21 May 2019
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is all set to close the online application window for Indian Economic Service (IES)/ Indian Statistical Service (ISS) on April 16, 2019. Candidates who are aiming for IES/ISS can apply online till 6:00 PM on April 16.
The Commission has released a notification for a total of 65 vacancies. Aspirants should meet all the eligibility conditions including the educational qualifications to apply online.
The selection of the candidates will be based on the written examination, which consists of six papers of each three hours duration. The exam will be conducted from June 28 onwards. The e-admit cards for IES/ISS will be released three weeks before the exam date.11 April 2019
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the official notification for the Indian Economic Service (IES) and Indian Statistical Service (ISS) examination 2019. Interested candidates who are eligible for the vacancies can apply online till April 16, 2019.
The educational requirement varies depending upon the position. Candidates who have obtained a postgraduate degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometrics are eligible to apply for IES. One who possesses a bachelor's degree with Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics as one of the subjects can apply for the ISS.
The IES/ISS exam will be held for three days from June 28, 2019. The IES/ISS exam consists of six descriptive papers. One who qualifies and obtains the cutoff score in the examination will be shortlisted for the interview. The final merit list will be released in November 2019.20 March 2019
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the final results of Indian Economic Service (IES)/Indian Statistical Service (ISS). Candidates who appeared for the interview between November 12 and 14 can check their final results on the official website of UPSC.
The final result of IES/ISS was prepared based on the written examination held in June & July and personality test. The commission has released the list and recommended for appointment to IES and ISS. The total number of candidates appointed for IES and ISS are 14 and 32, respectively.
Candidates who have appeared for the interview can check their result on the PDF available on the official website – www.upsc.gov.in. One can check their result using the roll number. However, the marks of the candidates will be available after 15 days from the date of declaration of the final results.
According to the official notification, the offer of appointment to the candidates, whose result has been kept provisional, will not be issued till the Commission verifies the original documents, awaited from such candidates, and clears their provisional status.
Annually, the UPSC conducts IES/ISS written examination in the month of June/July and personality test in October/November.28 November 2018
