CMS Examination Pattern

Union Public Service Examination (UPSC) - Combined Medical Examination Services (CMSE) Exam 2024 will be conducted in two parts.

PART I - Consists of two written papers - Paper I & Paper II of 250 Marks Each.

PART II - Consists of the Personality Test / Interview. It carries 100 Marks.

Paper I - Consists of two Parts - General Medicine & Paediatrics.

Paper II - Consists of Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, & Preventive  Social & Community Medicine.

Selection will be made through Written Examination, Personality Test, Document Verification and Medical Examination.

Scheme of Exam:

The examination shall be conducted according to the following plan;

Part-I Computer Based Examination - (500 Marks)

The candidates will take the Computer Based Examination in two Papers, each Paper carrying a maximum of 250 marks. Each Paper will be of two hours duration.

Note:

Both the Papers are of MBBS standard. The Computer Based Examination in both the papers is completely objective (Multiple choice answers) type. The question papers are set in only English. There is a penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers in the objective type question papers. There are four alternatives for the answers to every question. Each question for which a wrong answer has been given, one-third of the marks assigned to that question is deducted as penalty.

Part-II Personality Test - (100 Marks)

Candidates who qualify in the Computer Based Examination are called for Interview or Personality Test. The Interview or Personality Test carries 100 marks. The interview or personality test is intended to serve as a supplement to the Computer Based Examination for testing the general knowledge and ability of the candidates in the fields of their academic study and also in the nature of a personality test to assess the candidate's intellectual curiosity, critical powers of assimilation, balance of judgment and alertness of mind, ability for social cohesion, integrity of character, initiative and capability for leadership.

*Mobile Phone/other articles banned:

A).  The use of any mobile phone (even in switched off mode), pager or any electronic equipment or programmable device or storage media like pen drive, smart watches etc or Camera or blue tooth devices or any other equipment or related accessories either in working or switched off mode capable of being used as a communication devise during the examination is strictly prohibited. Any infringement of these instructions shall entail disciplinary action including ban from furture examinations.

B). Candidates are advised in their own interest not to bring any of the banned item including mobile phones or any valuable / costly items to the venue of the examination, as arrangement for safe-keeping cannot be assured. Commission will not be responsible for any loss in the regard.

The Centres and the dates of holding the examination as mentioned above are liable to be changed at the discretion of the Commission. Applicants should note that there willl be ceiling on the number of candidates allotted of each of the centres excpet Chennai, Delhi, Dispur, Kolkata and Nagpur. Allotment of centres will be on the first-apply-first-allot bassis and once the capacity of a particular centre is attained, the same will be frozen. Applicants, who cannot get a centre of their choice due to ceiling, will be required to choose a centre from the remaining ones.

Applicants are, thus, advised thay they must apply so that they could get a Centre of their choice.

NB : Notwithstanding the aforesaid provision, Commission reserve the right to change the Centres at their discretion if the situation demands."

Candidates admitted to the examination will be informed of the time table and place or place the examination.

Candidates should note that no request for change of centre will be considered / granted. All the examination centres of the examination will cater to the examination for persons with Benchmark Disabilities also.
