XAT Selection Procedure

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2026 serves as a gateway to MBA / PGDM Programmes at XLRI and over 160 B-Schools across India.

The selection process will begin soon after the XAT 2026 result is announced.

The admission process at XLRI will follow its own Admission Policy 2026, while other participating and associate institutes will use the XAT percentile as a key factor, combined with their individual criteria and weightages, to shortlist candidates.

Two-Stage Selection Process through XAT 2026

1. Shortlisting Based on XAT Scores & Cutoffs

Participating institutes, including XLRI, will release their individual XAT 2026 cutoff percentiles. Candidates who meet or exceed these cutoffs will be shortlisted for the next round.

2. Final Section: GD-PI/WAT Rounds

Shortlisted Candidates will be invited to attend the Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), and/or Written Ability Test (WAT) rounds as per the process followed by each institute.

Key Factors Considered in Final Selection:

  • XAT 2026 Score / Percentile
  • Performance in GD, PI  and / or WAT
  • Past academic record (10th, 12th, graduation courses)
  • Relevant work experience (If Any)
  • Diversity factors and extracurricular achievements (varies by institute)

The selection through XAT which is a national level management entrance exam for XLRI and over 150+ B-schools across India is considered to be the toughest of its type. The procedure of selection of XAT 2026, is a two-step process. The candidates are shortlisted by the participating institutes based on the scores and cut off of XAT 2026 and candidates have to appear for General Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.

The selection of the candidates by B-schools across the country will hugely depend on their XAT 2026 scores. However, this is not the only criteria for selection of candidates for management programmes, they also have to go through some more selection patterns of the respective B-schools.

Based on their scores in the examination and the cut off marks of XAT 2026, the candidates will be shortlisted by XLRI and other participating institutes across the country.

In the final selection process, the candidates who are shortlisted will appear for GD and PI rounds conducted by the respective B-schools.

The cutoff marks of the B-schools accepting XAT 2026 scores for admission to management programmes only to gauge the quality of students the particular institutes look for during the selection process.

There are various other criteria for candidates to be shortlisted for the past academic records, work experience, etc. Hence, it is not mandatory that obtaining the cutoff percentile will ensure a admit in the B-schools you have applied for.

After all selection process, the aspirants will be finally selected by any of the B-schools in the country.
