UGC NET Syllabus 2025

The UGC NET Syllabus 2025 serves as a comprehensive framework that guides aspirants in preparing for both Paper I & Paper II.

Paper I Syllabus (Common To All Candidates)

Paper I is designed to test general teaching and research aptitude, and includes topics such as:

  • Teaching Aptitude
  • Research Aptitude
  • Comprehension
  • Communication
  • Mathematical reasoning and aptitude
  • Logical reasoning
  • Data Intrepretation
  • Information and communication technology (ICT)
  • People, development and environment
  • Higher education system: Governance, Polity and administration

Paper II Syllabus (Subject-Specific)

Paper II is based on the subject selected by the candidate from the list of 83 subjects. This Paper evaluates in-depth knowledge of the subject and includes detailed topic-specific questions.

  • The syllabus for each subject is set by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and released alongside the official exam notification.
  • Candidates must thoroughly reivew the latest syllabus PDF from the official website - ugcnet.ntac.ac.in.

Upcoming Syllabus Revision Based on NEP 2020

In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the UGC has announced a revision of the UGC-NET syllabus. This decision was made in a commission meeting on November 3, 2023, with the goal of aligning the curriculum with the evolving acdemic and research landscape.

  • The revised syllabus will apply to all 83 subjects
  • Candidates will be given ample preparation time before the revised curriculum is enforced.
