WBJEE Eligibility Criteria

Annually, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board conducts the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) for admission to undergraduate courses in engineering, architecture and pharmacy. The qualified candidates in the WBJEE exam can seek admission in universities, government colleges and self-financed institutes of West Bengal. 

Candidates must meet the required eligibility criteria in order to appear for the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE). The organising body has clearly specified the academic requirements along with pass percentage and age limits for admissions to the engineering, architecture and pharmacy courses. 

WBJEE 2024 Eligibility Criteria

a) Citizenship : Applicant must be a citizen of India or OCI (Subject to Approval of the Competent Authority). OCI Candidates will be eligible for only Unreserved Seats in All India Quota.

b) Candidates must have passed 12th Standard (10+2) or its equivalent  examination before 2023 or appearing in 12th Standard (10+2) or its equivalent examination in 2024.

AGE RESTRICTION

The lower age limit is 17 (Seventeen) years as on 31.12.2024. A candidate should have been born on or before 31.12.2007. There is no upper age limit in appearing in the examination.

However, for admission to the degree level Marine Engineering Course the upper age limit is 25 Years as on 31.12.2024.

WBJEE Eligibility To Engineering Courses  

• Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination with physics and mathematics along with any one of chemistry/biotechnology/biology/computer science/computer application/technical vocational subject as compulsory subject. 
• Candidates must have obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category, e.g., SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD) in the above three subjects taken together. 
• Students must have passed English in the 10+2 examination with at least 30% marks.
• Candidates should pass the 10+2 from the board, which is recognized by the Central Government or State Government concerned. 

WBJEE Eligibility To Pharmacy Courses 

• Candidates must have passed 10+2 examination with physics, chemistry, mathematics/biology as compulsory subjects. 
• They must have obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category, e.g., SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD) in the above three subjects taken together.
• Students must have passed English in the 10+2 examination with at least 30% marks.
• Candidates should pass the 10+2 from the board, which is recognized by the Central Government or State Government concerned. 
• Candidates have to note that possessing 10+2 qualification from non-formal and non-class room-based schooling such as National Institute of Open Schooling, open school systems of any states, etc. are not eligible for admission to B. Pharm. 

WBJEE Eligibility To Architecture course

• Candidate with less than 50% marks in aggregate shall be admitted.
• Candidates must have passed 10+2 examination with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry & mathematics as a subject.
• One should also pass an Aptitude Test as specified by Council of Architecture.

Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination, i.e., the 10+2 in 2024 are also eligible to apply for the WBJEE 2024. However, they are not eligible for allotment of seat for admission if a candidate does not pass the qualifying examination with the minimum required eligibility criteria. 

WBJEE Residential/ Domicile Requirement

There is no residential/domicile requirement to appear for the WBJEE. However, candidates belonging to the West Bengal state are only eligible for admission to any Government aided Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy College. Also, candidates belonging to reserved category are also eligible for admission.  

Candidates have to note that only those will be treated as the domicile of West Bengal who are either residing in West Bengal continuously at least for last 10 years or whose parents are permanent residents of West Bengal having a permanent address within the State of West Bengal.

Course-Wise WBJEE Eligibility 2024

The marine engineering major and the five-year architecture degree are the two main courses for which the course-specific unique WBJEE Qualifying conditions for 2024 apply.

Degree in Marine Engineering

For the Marine Engineering Course at any WBJEE participating Institution, the following prerequisites apply:

Minimum Requirement: Successfully complete Class 12 or an equivalent test from an accredited council or board.

Subject required to be taken: Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.

Minimum Grades: 60% in PCM, with separate passing grades in each of the other three subjects.

English must receive at least 50% of the possible points in Class 10 or Class 12.

WBJEE Eligibility Through JEE Main 

• Candidates can avail admissions in Private Self Financing Colleges through JEE Main.
• To apply they must qualify in JEE Main. 
• A total of 10% of seats will be available to candidates under the JEE Main quota. 
• The eligibility for candidates is the same as that of WBJEE as above. 

Institute Specific WBJEE Eligibility Criteria 

Jadavpur University

• Candidates must have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2 level) or its equivalent examination with an aggregate of 45% (40% for SC/ST/PwD)

• They must have studied Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational Subjects (Engineering Drawing/Computer Science) as optional subjects

• They must have secured at least 30% marks in English (applicable for candidates from all categories)

• Candidates must also have individual pass marks in each of Physics, Mathematics, English as well as the optional subject chose (Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational Subjects (Engineering Drawing/Computer Science)

• Candidates must be at least 17 years of age as on December 31, 2023.

Jadavpur University and Calcutta University (excluding Dept of Jute & Fibre Technology)

• Candidates must have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2 level) or its equivalent examination

• They must have passed Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with an aggregate of 60% (55% for SC/ST/PwD)

• They must have secured at least 30% marks in English (applicable for candidates from all categories)

• Candidates must also have individual pass marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English

• Candidates must be at least 17 years of age as on December 31, 2023.

Q: I am 16 yrs old. Am I eligible for appear in WBJEE 2024?

A: No, a candidate must be at least 17 yrs old to appear in WBJEE 2024. The maximum age is not specified. Nonethesless, there is a 25-yrs old upper age limit for the Marine Enigneering Course.

Q: I have been residing in West Bengal for the last 17 yrs. Am I eligible for the state reservation as per WBJEE Eligibility 2024?

A: No, in order to qualify for WBJEE State reservation, a candidate must either be a resident of West Bengal for ten years or have parents who live there permanently.
