Aadhaar Not Mandatory For JEE Main, NEET And UGC NET: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has given a verdict saying that the Aadhaar is not required for entrance exams such as NEET, JEE Main and school admission. Know the details here.

The apex court of India, Supreme Court, has announced that Aadhar is not required for the entrance examinations such as National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and University Grant Commission - National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The court has also stated that this 12 digits unique identification number is not required for school admission which is a huge relief to students. The Supreme Court's verdict came out while challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhaar.

Earlier, the National Testing Agency (NTA), which has been bestowed with the responsibility of conducting the entrance examinations such as UGC NET, JEE Main and NEET by HRD Ministry, had released a public notice regarding use of Aadhar in UGC NET/ JEE (Main).

Aadhaar Not Mandatory For Exams: SC

NTA's public notice had clarified that the Aadhaar number was one of the type of identification and was not mandatory for filling in the online application form. The notice clearly reads that candidates can use passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid government identity number for online registration.

NTA has started accepting the online application forms for the JEE Main 2019 and UGC NET December 2018. The last date to register online for both the exams is September 30, 2018.
