The National Testing Agency (NTA), which was vested with the authority to conduct the National Eligibility Test (NET) from now onwards, has released the schedule for UGC NET December. The NTA will conduct UGC NET between December 9 and 23, 2018.
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted its last UGC NET on July 8 and completed the process after declaring the result. UGC NET is conducted twice a year and the HRD ministry has decided to continue with the same. NTA will be conducting the first UGC NET in December and the registration process starts from September 1, 2018.

UGC NET Registration: Steps To Apply Online
Step 1: Visit the official website of NTA to register online. - https://www.nta.ac.in/
Step 2: Click on the ''UGC NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST'' under ''NTA EXAMS''.
Step 3: To start the UGC NET application, click on ''Registration''.
Step 4: Click on ''Fill Application Form''.
Step 5: Fill all the mandatory fields.
Step 6: Upload your photograph and signature.
Step 7: Pay the prescribed exam fee.
Step 8: Verify the application and submit the details.
Step 9: Take a printout of the application form for future reference.

The admit cards for the examination will be available from the third week of November and the results will be announced on January 10. Candidates can apply for UGC NET until September 30, 2018.
Examination Fee
All the general candidates have to pay INR 800 as application fee, which is INR 400 for other backward classes (OBC). For SC/ST/PWD/transgender candidates, the application fee is INR 200. However, GST/processing charges & GST are to be paid by the candidate, as applicable.
UGC NET Eligibility
Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks in their master's degree or equivalent examination from the UGC-recognised institute are eligible for this test. For OBC, SC and ST candidates, 50% marks in their master's degree or equivalent are required.
UGC NET Exam Pattern
The UGC NET paper consists of two objective-type question papers and each question carries two marks. Paper-I will be of general nature to assess the teaching and/or research aptitude. Paper-II will be conducted on the respective subject selected by the candidate. The total duration of the exam is 3 hours and is conducted for 300 marks.

NTA will be conducting UGC NET along with other examinations such as JEE Main, CMAT, NEET (UG) and GPAT. UGC NET is conducted to select candidates for the posts of Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges.
Candidates who qualify for JRF are eligible to pursue research in their respective postgraduate subjects and are also eligible for the post of Assistant Professor. However, candidates qualified exclusively for the Assistant Professor post will not be considered for the post of JRF.
