What To Do Before Kick-starting A New Academic Year

Posted By: Sashikanth

The southwest monsoon had entered India a couple of days ago and is all set to traverse the country in the coming months. The summer will end with the breeze of monsoon and it's time for institutes and schools to open their doors to a new academic year. The management of the institutes might have drafted plans for the coming academic year. Prior to kick-starting the new academic year, one should do some homework which can make for a stress-free start. Let's tour the top ten things you need to do before going to college and/or school.

What To Do Before A New Academic Year

1. Start Where You Have Stopped

If you are continuing college or school, allot time to revise the course you have completed last year. It is very obvious students will forget the concepts after their summer break. Reading the last year's course will make the new topics and concepts easy to understand and will refresh your memory.

2. Know The Syllabus

One of the better ways to start the new academic year is to read the syllabus. Getting familiar with the new syllabus will give an overview of the subjects. So that you can plan accordingly to start the preparation.

3. Read The New Topics

Reading the concepts and topics in subjects prior to the reopening of the institutes will make you more committed during the classroom teaching. It will make your job easy while you're preparing as well. For instance, if you have read something related to freedom movement in Indian history, it will create interest towards the topic.

4. Gather Required Books And Study Materials

Though some colleges or schools provide textbooks, gathering some important books and study material to refer to will help you during the exam preparation. Reading the reference books from the beginning of the academic year is a good idea.

5. Complete Your Summer Projects

Most of the institutes and schools give some homework assignments which should be completed during the summer. Make sure that you have completed them because starting the new academic year with a negative mark will put your morale down.

6. Prepare Your Reading Space

It is very common to many students that they keep their reading space messy specifically during the summer period. If you are on that list, take time and keep all the things in their respective positions. If you are a student between class 10 and bachelor's, you will not get enough time to focus on the reading space later.

7. Make Your Resolutions

Starting a new academic year is the best time to draft and execute some resolutions. If you are always thinking to make changes to your routines such as increasing the study time in school, and productive use of lunch breaks, this is the right time to start.

8. Connect With Teachers/Professors

Make time to visit your school or college at least a few days before the classes begin. Connecting with the teachers or lecturers before the start of the new academic cycle will give them a positive opinion of you. This kindness will be useful whenever you face difficulty over the subjects.

9. Learn Something New

The summer is not just to relax all the time. It is the time for you to explore many other things apart from academics. If you want to execute any other new skills during the academic year, plan accordingly.

10. Relax, Recall, Reinvent!

The summer holidays will end soon. So get ready to focus on studies again. Recall all the strategies you followed for the exam and apply the same. Make sure you stay ahead of others before the academic year begins.
