IBPS Clerk 2022 Prelims: Important Tips for English Language, Strategy During Exam & More

IBPS Clerk 2022 English Language Preparation Tips: IBPS(Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) will be conducting the IBPS Clerk Prelims 2022 on the 3rd and 4th of September 2022 to recruit personnel for Clerical cadre posts in 11 Participating Banks across India. Eligible and interested candidates can join any of the Participating Banks as a Clerk or in a similar post in that cadre and must register for the Common Recruitment Process (CRP Clerks -XII).

The online written examination will be held in two-tier: Preliminary and Main Examination. Candidates who qualify for Online Preliminary Examination and are shortlisted will have to appear for Online Main Examination. Candidates who qualify in the Main examination and are sufficiently high in merit will be shortlisted for provisional allotment to one of the Participating Banks.

Candidates must qualify for the sectional cut-off in each of the three tests in the Online Prelims by securing cut-off marks to be decided by IBPS. The three sections in the IBPS prelims exam are English Language, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning Ability.

Candidates are advised to follow these tips to ace IBPS Clerk Prelims 2022.

1. Avoid Negative Marking

Attempt what you exactly know in the first go. Do not attempt every question to increase the number of attempted questions. Remember, there is a negative marking for each wrong answer. Attempt the questions with consciousness, as you will not be able to go back to the previous section once the allotted time is over, i.e. 20 minutes.

2. Attempt Mock Tests

Attempt at least 2 mock tests every day in the last week. Try to solve 2-4 comprehension every day. It will improve your speed. Solving comprehensions will develop a strategy while reading and answering the questions related to the passages. This will help increase your ability to spot keywords and phrases and find the right answers to the questions. The maximum number of questions come from Reading Comprehension; hence practice a lot. And candidates who ace this exam, score high in comprehension.

3. Previous Year Papers

It is very important to follow the exam pattern. And the best way to do so is to practice the previous year's question papers. Go through previous years' questions to understand the kind of questions, pattern and difficulty level. Usually, the passages from business newspapers on banking and economic themes are asked in the exam, so it is advised that you align your thought process accordingly. Keep sufficient time in your study plan to practice papers and the previous year's papers.

4. Main Topics

Though each topic has its importance, there are a few topics in which you need to be extra careful, like error-spotting, direct & indirect speech, fill in the blanks & active & passive voice, idioms & phrases, and sentence rearrangement. Practice these topics a lot.

5. Avoid Reading New Material

Whatever needs to be done has been done. So please avoid reading any new book or magazine in the last few days, especially in the last week. Just revise whatever you have read and practice it. Give mocks, and analyse your strengths and weaknesses.

6. Topic Wise Tips For IBPS Clerk 2022

For Fill in the Blanks- The elimination method is the best to choose the correct option; sometimes, you get the right answer even if you do not know the exact word's meaning.
Para Jumbles- Find the first and last sentence; it will solve half of your problem and make it meaningful for the rest.
Sentence Correction- Check the original sentence's grammar and eliminate incorrect grammatical options. No shortcut for this. And avoid what sounds right rather than go with grammar rules.
Cloze Test- Find the logical relation between all options while eliminating options.
Spotting Error- Find out the subject-verb agreement, and read each section to spot any further errors.
Reading Comprehension- Most of the candidates find it hard. But once you get the logic behind it, it is the simplest. Solve antonym & synonym first, never use any knowledge outside the passage(only passage, nothing more), grasp what the author is trying to say, spot keywords and phrases in notes sections and then answer.
