The British Council, UK's international organisation established with an aim to increase the cultural relations and educational opportunities, has established its presence in more than 100 countries and is working on attractive assets of UK, such as the English language. It has rolled out an online course Teaching For Success, which will help English teachers plan their own professional developments.

The British Council's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) framework has identified 12 practises a teacher should nourish to excel. The Teaching for Success program looks at the 12 professional practises in three areas, namely Lessons and Teaching, Learning and Learners and Classroom and the World. Let's look into the details of the three courses.

1. Lessons And Teaching

Candidates who enrolled in this course will learn about the four professional practises identified by the council's CPD. The course duration is 4 weeks and one has to devote two hours weekly for this course. The four professional practises are:

• Planning lessons and courses
• Managing resources
• Managing the lesson
• Taking responsibility for professional development

2. Learning And Learners

Candidates will learn about how to motivate learners besides subject knowledge. This course duration is also 4 weeks and one has to devote two hours weekly to it. One will acquire the professional practises such as:

• Understanding learners
• Knowing the subject
• Using inclusive practices
• Assessing learning

3. The Classroom And The World

Candidates will explore 21st-century skills along with multilingual approaches through this course. The course duration is 4 weeks and one has to devote two hours weekly to it. Candidates will learn about the last four professional practises in this course. They are:

• Integrating ICT
• Promoting 21st-century skills
• Using multilingual approaches
• Understanding educational policies and practise

How To Get An Award?

One has to upgrade all courses in the program in order to qualify for a Certificate of Achievement after each course. One should gain at least 90% in each course and score an average of 70% or above. The total duration of the course require 12 weeks and the total cost of a course is $237 (approx. INR 16,027).

One can join this course free of cost. Candidates who enrolled for free can access this course only for 6 weeks. On upgrading, one will get unlimited access to this course that includes articles, videos, peer reviews and quizzes. They will also get a certificate of achievement. Candidates can even download and print the certificate anytime.
