TSBIE 2021: Telangana Class 12 Board Exams 2021 Cancelled Amid Covid Surge

The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) has cancelled the Class 12 Board Exams 2021 for almost four lakh intermediate students. The officials from the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education notified that students who were scheduled to appear for the class 12 board examinations will be evaluated based on their performance in the inter first year of class 11. According to the state education minister, the results will be announced in three days.

After much discussion, Telangana has decided to cancel the class 12 board exams. The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) was among the few state boards that supported holding exams. The exams were supposed to take place from May 1 to May 19, and the practical evaluations were scheduled to take place between May 29 and June 7. Several possibilities were examined, including holding exams for 1.5 hours instead of three hours and giving students to attempt only 50 percent of the question paper. Finally, the state has decided to cancel exams along with the rest of the boards.

Due to the pandemic, the Telangana Board had earlier cancelled the class 10 exams. The result for class 10 was released on the basis of an internal assessment. This year, the board followed an "all pass" policy, and no student was detained in SSC.

This move to cancel the class 12 boards follows the central government's announcement on June 1 that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exams have been cancelled. CBSE said in an official statement that the assessment will be based on a "well-defined objective criteria" and that the results will be announced in a "time-bound manner." Furthermore, the board has provided students who are dissatisfied with their assessment the option of retaking the exam when the situation improves. The CBSE detailed criterion is scheduled to be released next week.
