The HRD ministry is considering the option of clubbing the ratings of NAAC and the HRD ministry's NIRF to decide over autonomous status for higher education institutes.

The HRD ministry is considering the option of clubbing the ratings of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and the HRD ministry's National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) to decide over autonomous status for higher education institutes.

 

Since autonomous status to higher education institutes is critical, the HRD Ministry considers such preposition of using grades as a measure to grant autonomy will maintain quality.

According to HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar, there would be a minimum regulation and maximum autonomy for institutions with better grades. And for other colleges, a balance between autonomy and regulation shall be maintained. The colleges below standards will be under stricter control.

Speaking at the Ficci higher education summit in Capital Delhi recently on the Ucchatar Avishkar Yojana (UAY), Javadekar said that the Indian Institutes of Technology were being encouraged to share innovative solutions in-turn giving students hand-on training.

He also said, IIT students can even work ideas for innovations and startups from their hostel rooms, he quipped.In a move to alleviate the problem of unemployment in the country, the Skill Develpment (SD) Ministry has proposed a plan to unite the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry's wing All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and SD Ministry.

According to Skill Development Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy engineering and skills training should be integrated for students to be employment ready.
