Thapar University is proud to share that its placements for the year 2011-12 are expected to touch 100% mark.

Over164 corporate houses have taken in a record of 936 students of Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Master of Engineering (ME), Master of Computer Applications (MCA), M.Sc & MBA courses before students passed out. Interestingly, 181 out of the 936 students were also offered double or triple placements. For the year 2012-13, 103 organizations have taken 652 students from various disciplines of engineering including Master of Engineering, MBA & MCA.

 

"To ensure this rate of placements, Thapar University has worked very hard. To provide the students practical knowledge of the subject, training programmes with joint supervision from Thapar University and the industry are conducted," said Dr KK Raina, Director, Thapar University.

Thapar University has a dedicated placement centre named Centre for Industrial Liaison and Placement (CLIP) which acts as an interface between the Industry and the institute.

"CLIP arranges trainings for the students in all the streams, to integrate the academic studies with work experience. This helps in ensuring that all students get optimum placements," Dr Raina added.

It body maintains a data base of the organizations, understands their personnel needs and organises campus placements for the students in a way that the positions are filled as per the employee requirement ascertaining convenience of both students and corporate sector.

Thapar University lays a lot of focus on the role of the industry in upgrading the course curriculum to bring it at par with the industry demands. Members from various corporate houses are part of Senate and various other bodies at Thapar University.

They are responsible for designing and planning the course curriculum followed at the university. Thapar University reviews its course structure every 4 years and changes it according to the current industry requirements. It has also designed various learning programmes basis the needs of the industry's current and future needs.

Major organizations which visited Thapar University for campus placements this year include global and Indian marquee brands like Google, Futures First, Microsoft, D.E. Shaw, Informatica Corp., Texas Instruments, MMT, ZS Associates, Goldman Sachs, American Express, Deloitte Consulting, Oracle, TCS, HP, Amdocs, Fidelity, CSC, ST Microelectronics, HCL Group, IBM, Wipro, Maruti, Eicher, Trident, Samsung, LG, John Deere, ABB, Whirlpool, Tata Motors, Hero Moto Corp, Cummins, UOP, Escorts, L & T , Mahindra, Flour Daniel, Gammon, Shapoorji Pallonji, Punj Lloyd, Accenture, ACC, Reliance Industries, Idea Cellular, Siemens, Panacea Biotech, Ranbaxy, among others.

Thapar University believes that its students should work closely with the industry to gain its in-depth knowledge. Thapar University is involved in organizing joint research programmes with the industry to benefit both the industry and the students.

The University facilitate the Industry by acting as a research partner and has tie ups with companies like PepsiCo Holding India Pvt Ltd, Mc Cain Foods, Ballarpur Industries Ltd etc through its body CORE (Centre of Relevance and Excellence). The body also conducts short term training course for the industry personnel, designed as per the demand of the industry and academia.

Thapar University provides consultancy to various research projects in the field of mechanical engineering, structural designs etc. Thapar also conducts various workshops with the corporates to update its students on the latest changes in the industry. In a recent workshop by Microsoft, students were updated on the R&D and the working of the latest technologies. "We want our students to be industry leaders and for achieving this, we keep planning some or the other initiative to ensure that our students are job ready and meet market and job expectations," said Dr Raina.

Apart from technical knowledge, Thapar University focuses on improving student's soft skills. "It is imperative that students are fully equipped and skilled for employment," said Dr Raina. The University has recently started a course with Toastmasters to enhance student's communication skills. The programme is going to be compulsory for all the students and shall focus on developing Communication and Leadership skills among them. Thapar University also provides necessary training to the students to hone their soft skills as a part of the course curriculum. The course works towards enhancement in the areas of presentability, decorum and behavior of the students.
