Research is only happening in a few institutes like the IIT's and IIM's".

Here's how he speaks about the progress in India n Universities in 'Research' . He said "In the twelfth Five Year Plan, the whole focus is on the quality aspect of education and we want all the colleges and universities get themselves accredited".

"We have even brought out a bill that makes accreditation compulsory but unfortunately it couldn't be passed in the last session of the Parliament. Accreditation will bring in standard's. We have already started working towards strengthening the statutory and regulatory bodies", he explained.

He stated that there is a need to improve the quality of the faculty in institutions of higher learning. Also, there is need to have increased mobility of faculty. We should have faculty coming from abroad and our faculty should be going abroad, he added.
