Cut-off Marks To Be Considered In Coaching Classes

We all know that Cut-off marks are seriously considered by Institutes and Universities during their admission process. But now, its not just colleges but also the Coaching centres who are having cut-offs in order to conduct their tutorials.

With more and more students scoring higher percentage in their SSC and HSC examinations, the coaching classes have come up with cut-offs for those who want to take up private tuition's. With high scores becoming a norm, institutes training students for Competitive examinations post class XII are also asking for either aggregate of 90% or at least in Subjects like Mathematics and Science.

Most of the institutes that train students for IIT's not only seek higher percentages but also base the admissions on entrance tests. One of the IITians Praveen Tyagi said "We hold entrance tests as our admissions begin before the SSC results are announced. After the results are out, we reject some applications if their aggregate scores are low compared to our target".

The vice president of Maharashtra Coaching class Owners Association Narendra Bhambwani said that institutes do it just to get the best students on board. "If these students do well in their boards, they can advertise themselves later. Many coaching classes even try to give flat discounts to high scorers to just get them to enroll in their institutes. Some have high court-offs for specific batches where they claim to give them intensive coaching throughout the year", he added.

A student reported an incident on the same. He said "A student from Ghatkopar was turned away by a reputed private tutorial in her area after she secured 82% in her SSLC board exams. The tutorial is very popular and good at teaching too, but as my scores were low I had to choose an another one".

Some of the institutes feel filling up seats are more important than the cut-offs. They are such institutes that run multiple batches at different branches. Many of them shut the admission process once their batches are full. From regular to vacation -cum-regular batches, the coaching classes offer it all.

One of the directors of MT Educare that has around 110 locations in Mumbai Chhaya Shastri says that they offer coaching to everyone who applies. "We shut admissions as soon as the batches are full. We do not keep track of the cut-offs". However, the institute runs intensive batches for "Brilliant" students. "But We offer customized coaching for students. There are three types of batches that include remedial coaching for slow learners, doubt solving batching and the intensive coaching batch. The training is given as per their needs", she added.

Well, its not just big cities like Mumbai that have cut-offs, even place like Miraj in South Maharashtra have similar systems in place. Coaching institutes in these places have also made it mandatory for students to secure a minimum percent of marks before they are admitted to coaching centres.
