The countdown for the prestigious National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) has began. This national-level entrance test conducted for admissions to medical courses is scheduled on May 6, 2018. With the release of admit cards for NEET, it is high time for the aspirants to start preparing. In the biology subject, not more than six questions were asked from a single unit. Thus, it would be a difficult task to say which chapter is most important for the exam. After analysing the previous years' question papers, we decided to split biology into two parts, namely zoology and botany.

Botany: The ecology, molecular basis of inheritance and plant kingdom units have more weightage with a total of 24 marks from each chapter. The genetics and reproduction in flowering plants occupies the second position. The cell biology and plant anatomy are the least important units.

Zoology: Undeniably, the human physiology unit takes the lion's share in this subject. One can expect more than three questions about the digestive system and endocrine system. In the biomolecules, DNA, enzymes, lipids and RNA processing are the most important chapters. The animal kingdom and biotechnology have the equal weightage in the exam. However, never ignore microbes in the human welfare and human health and disease.

If you are confident with the mechanics and electrodynamics, you can tackle more than 20 questions in NEET 2018. In mechanics, rigid body dynamics and modern physics are the most important chapters. In the electrodynamics unit, on an average two questions are expected from the electromagnetic field.

Around three questions are expected from the KTG & thermodynamics chapter in heat & thermodynamics unit. Interestingly, from the past few years, the weightage for the SHM & waves was increased.
