The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is all set to conduct the National Defence Academy & Naval Academy (NDA & NA) on Apr 22, 2018. After exploring the preparation tips of the mathematics paper in NDA & NA, aspirants' immediate focus should be on paper-II (General Ability Test). Here are the section-wise tips for the general ability test paper in NDA & NA.

NDA & NA English

The general mental ability test paper consists of two parts namely, English and General Knowledge. The maximum marks awarded for English will be 200. This means, one-third of the general mental ability paper will be based on English. The syllabus covers various aspects such as grammar and usage, vocabulary and comprehension.

Candidates are suggested to pick any good grammar book, such as Wren and Martin, and try to solve all the practise questions in it. The reading comprehension is one of the best areas to score more. Be acquainted with synonyms and antonymous. Read the newspaper daily to improve your vocabulary.

NDA & NA General Knowledge

General Knowledge consists of 400 marks. It covers the subjects physics, chemistry, general science, social studies, geography and current events. As General Knowledge takes the lion's share in the total marks, candidates' focus should be on this. Let's tour the tips of each section closely.

NDA & NA Physics Tips

The prime focus should be on the class 11 and 12 textbooks of NCERT. Try to figure out the expected questions based on the previous years' question papers, specifically the physics section. The most important topics in physics are Ohm's law, simple electrical circuits, use of X-rays, simple pendulum, hydrometer, microscope and elementary ideas of work.

NDA & NA Chemistry Tips

The chemistry section in NDA & NA is much easier, if you have a strong hold on the basic concepts. One has to know about the laws of chemical combination but exclude problems because they are not required. Study all the preparation and properties of hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide. The elementary ideas about the structure of atoms, atomic equivalent and molecular weights are important.

NDA & NA General Science Tips

Aspirants must focus on the concepts such as basis of life cells, protoplasms and tissues. There might be direct questions on solar system and achievements of eminent scientists. So never ignore them. The commission may put some interesting questions on diet and energy sources for humans. Be strong in the concepts such as growth and reproduction in plants and animals.

NDA & NA History, Freedom Movement

Be it any publication, candidates are suggested to take a general knowledge book of their choice. Mark the syllabus topics and try to master them. Though the freedom movement is a vast area to cover, one should not neglect this. The NCERT books surely help you in this section also. Aspirants should focus more on the defence topics such as forces shaping the modern world, war of American independence, concept of one world, panchsheel communism, socialism and democracy.

NDA & NA Geography

This section tests your knowledge on the physical, social and economic geography. The facts are key in the examinations. So never get confuse with the names, latitudes and longitudes. Aspirants are suggested to master geography from an Indian perspective. This means they have to master the concepts based on India's climate, mineral sources, important sea ports, etc.

NDA & NA Current Events

The current affairs is an unorthodox section specifically in the NDA & NA examination. None of us can not predict the important areas. To earn a good score, list all the important events in India and the world that took place in the recent years. Know about the famous personalities, who are connected with cultural activities and sports. Reading a newspaper everyday will not only provide the general knowledge required but will also improve your vocabulary for the English section.
