Can Teachers Motivate Themselves?


Teaching profession is a journey filled with humongous opportunities to learn, enjoy and grow as much as one can try. Though the norm of 'having learnt is sufficient to teach' exists, it is worth the resistance when you learn while you teach! What teachers fail to acknowledge is the need to keep learning and growing intellectually.

There are many ways teachers and educators can motivate themselves in this competitive world of chances, but the ways to get self-motivated remain to be a BIG challenge to many.

Some teachers try their hand at the profession because they believe that learning leads to some level of gratification as a job in a way or the other; while others feel that it could be a boring lonesome job, spending time in isolation from their peers or colleagues.

Participate and be a part:
It is rewarding to invest yourself in and through your efforts. It helps you to learn more, and motivates you to grow in the area of your specialisation or professional skills. This will enhance your views about education as a system.

Broaden your perspectives:
Broaden your perspectives to view things out of the regular, differently. Expose yourself to newer teaching methods. Learn to further enhance your capacity to research, with the help of learning materials and resources. Try and broaden your viewpoint on how to add value to your work. This, in turn, broadens the scope of what you have learned for yourself and would help you become an effective teacher in your classroom.

With the buzz doing the rounds on - 'technology carving fine lines for future learning and for future learners', it becomes an essential qualification for all your future endeavours to contribute into the educational space. Get yourself acquainted with technology as much as you can, as it is an ever-growing era of knowledge.

Never ignore to construct your own learning curve. It could be harder and sometimes frustrating to teach yourself. But, the more you teach yourself, the more you remove obstacles that constrain the learning part of your life. Give way to newer methods of learning, and adopt unique ideas. Self-teaching activities motivate you as much or even more than you teach others.
