It is exam season and the need to manage time during exams is on high priority. Did you know that with proper planning you could easily manoeuvre time and efficiently perform in the exam? Here is a list of things you must do to improve your time management during exams.

Read The Instructions Carefully

Read The Instructions Carefully

Before the exam, you would have gotten umpteen instructions about the paper pattern, syllabus, timings, etc. In actuality, you will know the real picture only when you are given the question paper. Hence, beware and read the instructions carefully. In case you have to answer three questions but only two are given, check again. If not, clear the doubt with the invigilator. Being clear about the question paper helps to avoid squandering time in the middle of the exam.

Speed Writing

Speed Writing

Speed writing is a major aspect that you must work on for time management. This comes more with practise. While taking up numerous model exams prior to the final exams could be one way, consciously writing quickly is another way in case you don't have time for practise.

Some people get into the habit of writing at leisure imagining that there is ample time. Never take such risks. Write as fast as you can and allocate separate time for checking your answer sheet so that speed and accuracy is balanced.

Start With Familiar Questions

Start With Familiar Questions

Some students might think that going with tough questions first could give you enough time to think and later on you could finish writing whatever you know. Unfortunately, if you take too long trying to recollect the tough answer, you might be left with very little time to write whatever you know and end up not writing even what initially looked easy to answer.

Have Back Up Plans

There is probability that you might have made some unintentional yet costly mistakes. Do not panic. Write down the clarifications on the paper immediately so that your examiner can notice them. If there is very little time left and you have answered the wrong question, answer the right question in bullet points quickly and mark the changes with clarity for the understanding of the examiner.

Keep Stationery In Place

Keep Stationery In Place

Imagine a situation where you know all the answers and you have a flow of thought but your pen stops writing! It is natural to feel tensed at such an instance. So, always carry extra pens and other stationery to the exam. Ensure that all your pens have full refills and are in working condition.

Do Not Panic

Do Not Panic

If the paper appears tough, the first reaction that hits you is panic. It is natural and okay. But after a minute, it's time for you to combat the situation. Rather than getting panicky, think of all related answers to the question even if you do not know the actual answer. Write down all relevant points and keep the flow going without being stuck due to your fear.

Get Additional Sheets In Advance

Get Additional Sheets In Advance

In case you have loads to write and may require extra sheets, do not wait till you reach the end of your existing sheets. Raise your hand and ask for a sheet in advance so that you can carry on writing and not wait for it until the last minute when you will be in queue with most others too asking for the same.

Constantly Keep Tracking Time

Constantly Keep Tracking Time

For you to be able to execute the tasks planned on time during the exam, you must be aware of the timing every moment. Keep your eye on the clock or wear a watch. If clock and watch are not there, keep asking the invigilator for the time without hesitation. It is important for you to know it.
