The board exams season just being around the corner, all schools in the country are preparing their students with extra hours of prep apart from the regular schooling. Schools in Tamil Nadu however are joining hands with higher educational institutions to equip their students for exams and higher education.
The higher educational institutions are contributing to sharpen the skills of students and teachers. They are conducting workshops and training sessions to help students identify potential streams for higher education and the career opportunities associated with the subjects.
Universities like the VelTech University, Chennai are conducting motivational programmes for Class 11 and Class 12 students to help them handle question paper within the stipulated time. The university is also providing the students with video clips with tips from various subject experts on cracking the paper. Along with these, the institution is also conducting various creative activities as a part of these sessions to boost students' confidence.

Another area of focus of these higher educational institutions is training teachers to help students. VelTech university has been appointed to devise active learning methodologies and train teachers across the state. This university is training teachers especially in physics, chemistry and mathematics so that these subjects can be taught in a logical manner.
The involvement of the higher educational institutions at the school level could help guage students interests and inform them what the industry is like. The training process also gives students and idea of how much education and skills are required to make them employable.
IIT Madras is also taking part in this drive by training Class 12 students and shaping their career by introducing workshops on science from different schools.
The well known SASTRA University is carrying out awareness camps and teacher training for government schools. They are conducting awareness regarding competitive exams and careers to government schools where many of them are not aware of exams like JEE and others.
The SASTRA University is also conducting teacher training for 3,000 government schools across the state of Tamil Nadu. They are providing a 6 day residential training camp for teachers which includes technology awareness and JEE coaching for 40 students year. The university plans in future to invite students for a summer stay on their campus.
Institutions like Sri Ramachandra University are tying up with governmental agencies like department of science and technology to conduct internship programmes for Class 11 students. This year 210 students have been selected.
