Sci-Tech Spins: IIT Delhi Offering Online Seminars, Laboratory Demos For School Students

IIT Delhi faculty will provide virtual lectures and lab demos once a month for school students. Each school can nominate up to 4 students for Sci-Tech Spins.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will be offering monthly free online seminars and laboratory demos for high school students. Students in classes 9 and above can be nominated by their schools for Sci-Tech Spins. Up to four students from each school may be nominated. At the end of each weekend session, all enrolled students who attended the lectures will get e-certificates of participation.

IIT Delhi Offering Online Seminars, Lab Demos

Starting in September 2021, the IIT Delhi faculty will provide virtual lectures and laboratory demonstrations once a month. Prof PV Madhusudan Rao, Head, Department of Design, IIT Delhi, will offer the first lecture on September 11 titled 'Design Thinking - A Powerful Tool for Problem Solving', which will be followed by a lab demonstration.

Sci-Tech Spin lectures will take students on brief but enthralling journeys around the fascinating universe that surrounds us and still offers a plethora of mysteries for us to unravel. They will be held in informal, dialogical settings with the hopes of inspiring students to pursue them further in the future.

"We often receive several requests from schools for campus tours, workshops, and mentorship programmes for their students," said Prof Pritha Chandra, Associate Dean, Academic Outreach & New Initiatives, IIT Delhi. The idea for Sci-Tech Spins came from IIT Delhi's desire to adopt a more proactive approach to academic outreach for schools.

"IIT Delhi has taken up Institute Social Responsibility on a large level," stated Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Director of IIT Delhi. "We aim to interact with thousands of additional students who are not part of the IIT system and inspire and aid them in any way we can, in addition to providing education to students who come to IIT Delhi. Sci-Tech Spins' mission is to link with every school in India. In terms of education, IIT-Professor Assisted Learning (PAL) is a programme that IIT Delhi has spearheaded, with other IITs joining in. Several intriguing things are going on campus in terms of research as well. One of the goals of this effort is to show these scientific works to school children in order to encourage them," he added.

IIT will also welcome enrolled kids to the annual Open House event, an intellectual event that provides an ideal platform for school children to meet with some of the world's top scientists and engineers. Students from all over the country will be able to watch the lecture and laboratory demonstration sessions live on YouTube.
