Lucknow: The Union ministry of human resource development has decided to introduce an integrated three-year B.Ed and a two-year M.Ed programme. These course would be available to students from the next academic session.
"The country faces an acute shortage of teachers at the primary , secondary and high school levels. The idea of introducing an integrated pro gramme is to enable those interested in teaching to move into the profession without having to give an extra year to be trained as teachers," said, HRD minister of state.
Under the new system, a student would be able to opt for the three-year B.Ed pro gramme after class XII. Currently, a one year B.Ed programme can only be pursued after graduation.
The Centre has already proposed a change to the existing B.Ed pro gramme increasing its duration from one year to two years before this. To implement this, the government has asked for a declaration of guidelines for the two-year programme.
