Higher Studies for Job Satisfaction

By Dr. Lakshmi Mohan

Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the landscape of your career, life and the world: that's the enormity of education!

Learning has to be life long and one has to pursue higher studies if he wishes to make a mark in his career. Higher learning leads to knowledge that transforms to wisdom which is most essential at work place. When one is filled with knowledge, attitude and skill, empowered by higher studies, confidence builds up, thus leading to job satisfaction.

Higher studies or building on ones learning has gained importance because of the following factors:

Match up to competition: In today's scenario education is part of one's appraisal criteria at work. Ramesh was a B.Com graduate when he joined a company and his colleague Sahil was an MBA. Though Ramesh was more competent than Sahil, he was denied promotion as he did not possess a post graduate degree. There is immense competition at work place so not pursuing higher studies can become a barrier to growth and promotion.

Higher Studies for Job Satisfaction

Upgrade learning and skill: Higher studies would lend opportunities to learn the latest trends and update oneself with the know how of the industry. This in turn makes one more competent and renders recognition that leads to satisfaction in ones job. Bina who pursued Masters in International Business and works with an MNC owes her job satisfaction entirely to the learning exposure that led to faster promotions and a hefty salary package.

Climb up the career ladder: Organisations view their employees holistically. With higher studies it is easier to rise up in your career graph, if not one may face stagnation in his career progression.

Apart from the above, higher studies lead to blue collared jobs, better fringe benefits and challenging nature of work. Adding to qualifications adds strength and confidence to ones demeanour making brighter avenues for personal and professional growth. There is a sense of security that comes with recognition you receive from colleagues and superiors , which doubles up the job satisfaction.

Many research studies have shown direct relation between higher studies and job satisfaction. This close connect makes higher studies relevant, but one has to prudently choose the stream and plan his career to gain utmost from the higher qualification attained by him.

It goes without saying that education is one of the means to develop our greatest strengths that can fulfil our aspirations for a bright and prosperous career!
