CBSE Introducing Competency-Based Questions

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) switched the kinds of questions that will be asked in CBSE board exams in 2023. These are intended to assess students' conceptual understanding and utilization rather than their capacity to remember information. CBQs often require students to examine, analyze, and develop instead of merely recollect knowledge. These are designed to evaluate students' critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, as well as their capacity to utilize their understanding under practical circumstances.

CBSE to Introduce Competency-Based Questions

Following the revised test pattern, CBSE class 10th will feature 40% competency-based questions, while CBSE class 12 will have 30% competency-based questions in the board exam 2023. Nevertheless, for Class 11 and Class 12, 20% of the questions will be competency-based, 20% will be objective-type questions, and 60% will be shorter and longer answer-type questions. The total number of marks and the duration of the CBSE board final test will remain static.

Annapurna Devi, Minister of State for Education, introduced the modifications in answer to a written query in the Lok Sabha, following the suggestions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. These questions will come in a variety of types, including objective, constructing answer, assertion, reasoning, and case-based. Minister Annapurna Devi remarked that with the implementation of the new National Education Policy 2020, the CBSE had encouraged affiliated institutions to follow the suggestions concerning the learning structure.

According to PTI, the minister stated, "Prominent among these are competency-based learning, adoption of learning outcomes, use of experiential and joyful learning pedagogies such as art integrated education, sports integrated learning, storytelling, and so on, insistence on basic fundamental mathematical and literacy skills, and inductive reasoning of qualified counsellors at the middle and high school levels."
The evaluation approach aims to develop India's current education system while enhancing overall learning outcomes for pupils.
