CBSE Exams 2023: Change in Education Pattern, Competency Based Class 10th, 12th Exams

The academic year's Class 10 and Class 12 theory exams will start on February 15, 2023. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has not yet made the exam timetable public.

 

The minister added that the CBSE had encouraged affiliated institutions to implement the suggestions about the educational pattern following the introduction of the new National Education Policy, 2020.

Competency Based Class 10th, 12th Exams

Annapurna Devi, the minister of state for education, provided the information in response to a written question in the Lok Sabha.
The use of experiential and joyful learning pedagogies, emphasis on foundational literacy and numeracy, and the introduction of qualified counsellors at the secondary and senior secondary levels are prominent among others.
Following the National Education Policy 2020, the Central Board of Secondary Education has advised its schools to follow the Policy's recommendations regarding the education pattern.

According to Annapurna Devi, the CBSE has started using competency-based questions in Class 10 and 12 board examinations as part of NEP-2020 to change the examination format. These inquiries come in various formats, including case-based, assertion-and-reasoning, objective type, and constructing response types.

Changes In Exam Pattern

About 40% of Class 10 board examination questions and about 30% of Class 12 examination questions will be competency-based in the academic year 2022-2023. The academic year's Class 10 and Class 12 theory exams will start on February 15, 2023. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has not yet made the exam timetable public.

Competency-Based Learning: Overview

Competency Based learning includes the following concepts:

  • Adoption of Learning Outcomes
  • Use experiential and Joyful learning pedagogies such as Art Integrated Education, Sports integrated learning, Storytelling etc.
  • Emphasis on foundational Literacy and Numeracy
  • Appointment of qualified counsellors at the secondary and senior secondary level
