CAT 2014 Exam Day 1 analysis

IIM Indore has started the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2014 on November 16, 2014 at 307 test centres across the country.

A total of 1.96 lakh candidates had registered for the CAT 2014 exam. The first session had started at 7.30 AM, and the second session had started on 1 PM.

It has been reported that, many of the aspirants forgot their ID card and photographs. These aspirants were not allowed to appear for the examination. There were no technical glitches reported.

CAT 2014: Session 1 analysis:
As per the students the paper was moderate in difficulty level. Logical Reasoning section had the very tough questions, and Verbal Ability section had moderate tough questions. Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation section were moderate.

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation:
This section was moderate in difficulty level. This section had 34 questions from Quantitative Ability and 16 were from Data Interpretation. The Quantitative area was the easiest, but questions were asked from varied topics. Most of the questions were based on number system.

Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning:
In this section, Logical Reasoning part was very tough to crack. Verbal Ability has the reading comprehension passages with moderate in difficulty level questions. Aspirant said that there were no questions on fill in the blanks or Verbal Analogy. Some students said that the reading comprehension passaged were quite lengthy.

CAT 2014: Session 2 analysis:
The second session paper was little tough compare with the first session paper. Verbal Ability has too lengthy, and DU and LR has tough questions. QA was neither easy nor difficult. The difficulty level was moderate to tough.

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation:
This section was neither too easy nor too difficult. Some students said that Data Interpretation has tough questions. This section had the questions on Arithmetic, Algebra, Integers, etc.

Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning:
This section has both the easier and tougher questions. VA had very lengthy questions, and LR has tough questions. There were 3 reading comprehension passages with 4 questions each, which required aspirant to understand and answer properly. Overall this section was lengthy and high in difficulty level.

Overall Analysis:
The candidates who have answered DI on the first session can expect a high score. DI and LR are the two section where it prove to be prime factors to score marks. Overall QA was rated moderate. DI and LR found difficulty in the level. VA was moderate in difficulty level. Most of the students said that the CAT 2014 paper was different and difficult and time-consuming.

Several candidates who appeared for the CAT 2014 found the paper easier compared to the previous years. But a few students complained that questions in the data interpretation section were tough and time consuming.

The next CAT 2014 exam will be held on November 22, 2014.
