Bangalore: On Monday, during the Bangalore University's (BU) academic meeting, new precepts for Local Inquiry Committees (LIC) were approved by the university.
A greater uniformity and better qualitative observations by LICs is expected to be the outcome of this move. LICs approves the intake of students, grants renewal of affiliations, approves additional courses or provides permanent affiliation to colleges affiliated to BU.
In June 2013, BU had established a committee, under the chairmanship of its vice-chancellor, in order to propose a new tool for assessments of colleges by LICs that permit new affiliations or renewal.
B Thimme Gowda, vice-chancellor of BU, said that the LICs will follow the new percepts, which includes check list and score sheet. 26 LICs will follow the process and they would begin to visit the colleges from next month, he said.
30 per cent weightage will be given for the infrastructure index, 20 per cent weightage for the process index, 20 per cent for the student performance index and 30 per cent for the faculty index, as per the new guidelines.
A minimum score of 40 per cent is required for renewal of affiliation, 45 per cent is required for increase in intake, 50 per cent score is required for sanction of additional course, 65 per cent for renewal of permanent affiliation and 60 per cent for fresh permanent affiliation.
