AU revises its revaluation procedure

Anna University in Chennai has amended its procedure for revaluation. As per this new procedure, engineering students across the state have to get the photocopy of their answer sheet verified first by the experts in the subjects before they apply for revaluation.

Directorate of Government Examination is already following a similar procedure while the answer papers of higher secondary public examination is being revalidated. The new system is being introduced to avoid students from wasting their money and to avoid the time that the teaching faculty have to spend on revalidation.

M Rajaram, Vice-Chancellor of Anna University said, "Students can save money by checking how their answer scripts were evaluated by the examiner and whether they are eligible for more marks, before applying for revaluation. The student can also improve his writing by checking how his answer script was evaluated."

He said, "The process will save teachers a lot of time because in engineering there are many papers and lakhs of students appear for examination."

As per the amended process, students who want to apply for reassessment, should apply for their answer sheet's photocopy first, paying Rs.300/- per answer script. After which, they will have to verify for any discrepancy in the photocopy, for instance, mistake in summing up the marks or missing out on calculating marks while valuation. In these cases, the students can bring the issues to Controller of Examinations' notice for correction.

The subject expert can validate the photocopy of the answer sheet. If the expert is sure that the student deserves more marks than what is given, then the student can apply for revaluation by paying Rs 400/- as fee for revaluation.

A student who is dissatisfied even after revaluation, can opt for reviewing his/her answer sheet by paying the fee advocated. Under the procedure for reviewing the answer scripts, two members of faculty will evaluate the answer script and the students have to pay a much higher fee. This fee will be refunded only if the student gets a higher marks after revaluation, as said by Anna University's official.
