Today, one of the most promising fields of technology is robotics. Why? Because it's a known fact that a robot or a machine makes our work faster, efficient and easier. A little about robotics:
A Czech word which means forced labor is where the term "robot" is derived from. Karel Capek, a playwright was where the word was first coined. This playwright involved fictional robot monsters.
There are primarily 3 main types of robots-
* Industrial robots: They perform repetitive manufacturing tasks.
* Research/ Service robots: They are used in gathering data, in surgeries, space craft etc. "Artificial Intelligence" derived from the fact that they can interact with the environment.
* Educational robots: They help in learning and are used in competitions.
Isaac Asimov is considered as the Father of Robotics. He proposed "Laws of Robotics" .
How to incorporate robotics in classrooms?
At many institutions around the world, competitions are held for young engineers to build robots to perform a particular task. This is one way the children will learn about its mechanics. Assigning projects that associate with robotics is another way of reaching out to the students to teach them its importance. Seminars and discussions and field trips to industries can also make them go deeper into knowing robotics.
Why is it important to learn robotics?
Following Charles Darwin's "Survival of the fittest", we must always strive to be in the league to survive in this fast developing world. We often have to follow the trend and keep ourselves updated.
Robotics is creating a path to the next dimension. Hence, the children have to gain necessary knowledge on the same. There are innumerable possibilities which can be achieved by robotics. It is a promising field.
There are plenty of universities offering this as a course, and many websites and books that give information on robotics. There are many self-help kits available using which you can build your own robot. You may never know when you might just come up with an idea which holds solutions to solve many issues in the world. But, one must never forget the fact that the robot built must aid us and never be a threat to our survival. Keeping this futuristic concept in mind, one must not hesitate in opening the doors to learn it.
