New 4-year programme leaves many anxious

The several changes introduced in the system dues to the four year undergraduate programme (FYUP) have caught aspirants off guard.

While the programme promises to provide greater flexibility to students to pick up and choose across disciplines, students were left flummoxed by the absence of one of the varsity's major course - BA Programme.

Students not happy with 4-year programme

And the change has left the students wondering about the ease with which they will be able to pursue the programme.

" Everything is very ambiguous under the FYUP system because DU seems to have done away with the concept of BA (Programme) altogether. Even though, they say that an exit option in the third year will fetch us a BA degree, it will close options for us because we have not scored in 90s in class 12th," says Piyush Sharma, a student from Delhi.

At helpdesks set up by DU students, most queries were related to the various facets of the revamped bachelor's degree.

"Students are very worried about two things - those with lower percentage who could earlier make it to BA programme will no longer stand a chance. Secondly, the choice of subjects available to them has become even more restricted under the new system," says Arun Hooda, president, Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU).

However, university's officials have made it clear that the course options that had been made available to students under the BA programme will still be available to them at a later stage in the programme.
