AMU to introduce Urdu course for UG
The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has decided to introduce a compulsory Urdu course for B.A/B.Sc./B.Com students.

AMU Registrar, Group Captain (Retd.) Shahrukh Shamshad through an Office Memo said that the Vice Chancellor has approved the introduction of a compulsory Urdu course for the students of BA/B.Sc./B.Com in the new academic session 2013-14.

The students of the above programmes will chose one out of the three Urdu Courses prescribed for different categories of students.

The "Elementary Urdu " A"course will be for students who have studied Urdu at Senior Secondary School or Intermediate and the "Elementary Urdu " B" course.

The students who have not studied Urdu at any level and for students belonging to the states adjoining UP, while a "Non Mother Tongue (Urdu)" will be for foreign students and for those from distant states of the country as defined in the Table VI of the AMU Guide to Admission 2013-14.

The notification further said that the marks of compulsory Urdu in the first year of BA/B.Sc./B.Com will be included in aggregate and contribute towards the division of the students.

The passing marks will be 17 out of 50 and the students will have to clear the course by the second year of their BA/B.Sc./B.Com to be eligible for the award of the degree.

The notification also made it clear that 75% attendance will be mandatory for compulsory Urdu classes.
