As per Sibal, the JEE exam will be conducted in 2 parts, Mains and Advanced. The Main exam will be an aptitude test and the advanced exam will test students knowledge about various subjects. The question paper will be prepared by the IIT and exam known as JEE will be introduced from the next academic year.

The students revealed that as per the new system class XII board marks will carry 40% weightage but those scoring less in class XII will have no options available. Moreover, the new exam format will cause more irregularities in class XII board exams.
While the state education ministers have jointly supported the proposal, Tamil Nadu has raised objections against it and Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Puducherry have asked for more time to contemplate on the proposal.
