New Common Entrance Exam Is IITs Brand Value-Sibal

Common Entrance Exam, IIT's Brand Value
Union Minister, MHRD Kapil Sibal has claimed that the new entrance exam format proposed for IIT's – Indian Institute of Technology will maintain the brand vale of the IIT's and help it acquire brighter students. He also said that the new format of the Joint Entrance Exam and 40% weightage allotment to class XII board marks will help students focus on their class XII board exams equally and will reduce their dependence on the coaching centres.

As per Sibal, the JEE exam will be conducted in 2 parts, Mains and Advanced. The Main exam will be an aptitude test and the advanced exam will test students knowledge about various subjects. The question paper will be prepared by the IIT and exam known as JEE will be introduced from the next academic year.

When this issue was slightly taken between the students of IIT-Delhi they disagreed with Sibal claiming that the new system will only burden on the students rather than keeping a check on coaching institutes. The students revealed that as per the new system class XII board marks will carry 40% weightage but those scoring less in class XII will have no options available. Moreover, the new exam format will cause more irregularities in class XII board exams.

While the state education ministers have jointly supported the proposal, Tamil Nadu has raised objections against it and Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Puducherry have asked for more time to contemplate on the proposal.
