IGNOU To Launch Center Of Studies For Disabled

IGNOU Launches Centre For Disabled
The National Center for Disability Studies (NCDS) has signed an MoU with the Kerala based Society for promoting alternative computing and Employment (SPACE) to establish the first resource center for the disabled in order to provide them exclusive skill development courses.

Arun Banik the Director of NCDS said, “A certificate program on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for the blind will enable them to access information on the internet, 'read' scanned pages of printed material on computer, create digital information and communicate with others using ICT." Also within two years the centers may turn out to be the hub for learning cum ICT related activity, he added.

If this step taken by IGNOU leads towards success, then it will undertake production of audio content such as audio books, provide public internet access to the visually challenged, act as technology support centers and finally evolve into a hub of Activities for the Visually Challenged in the future.

With respect to the present generation, this course and the center will reside on the authority of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), which would also be with full of advantages for the students.
