Know all about International Translation Day 2022

30 September is the death anniversary of Saint Jerome who is widely regarded as the patron saint of translators. The date was chosen to celebrate the immense contribution of Saint Jerome who translated the Bible from Greek to Latin - the language of the dominant Roman Empire - thus making it accessible and understandable to much of the western world of that era.

International Translation Day History and Significance

International Federation of Translators, FIT proposed in 1991 the idea of dedicating a global day to recognize the important role the translation community plays in the world. As the world got more connected through globalization, their roles became all the more important. And finally, on May 24, 2017, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to observe every September 30 as World Translation Day.

Translators connect the world using language as a tool. No peace, prosperity, and development can be achieved in the world without effective communication. But with so many languages in the world making effective communication complicated, the role of translators become significant to global peace and prosperity.
