That is why it is all the way more important to be jovial at work. However, things are not as easy as they seem.

A workplace is a confluence of people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Everyone comes from a different school of thought. Collaborating with all of them and actually getting some serious work done is a Herculean task. To top it all, there are things like office politics, rumours and boot-licking that makes matters all the way more difficult for all of us.

In such a scenario remaining happy does require significant efforts on our part. But knowing the importance of the same, making due efforts in this regard does seem to make sense.

Here is a list of seven points that will help one lighten their mood at work which in turn will make them come to terms with a much happier version of themselves. So irrespective of which position, designation or company you work for, read on to know how you can unleash a happier version of yourself at work.

1. Show All Your Creativity At Your Desk

Considering that you will spend a major chunk of your time in office in front of your desk, it is a good idea to display a certain amount of creativity in decorating the same. Personalizing the same with family pictures or quote from your favorite book is a good idea as that will make you feel more at home. Investing in organizers is also a good idea, as a neat and tidy workspace is the foundation of a highly conducive working environment. It has been established that having desk calendars and table clocks in one's workplace makes him or her more cautious of the passage of time and this in turn makes him value each moment and lightens his or her mood at work.

2. Leave An Anonymous Note For A Coworker

2. Leave An Anonymous Note For A Coworker

In the note you can write anything nice about him or her. Make sure that you keep the element of surprise alive by not mentioning your name. The look of happiness on his or her face when they read the note will be enough to make your day. After all, happiness is something that multiplies itself by sharing. On the other side, initiating the practice of giving this kind of a note may lead to you receiving the same someday in the near future. The thought of the same is enough to make you happy, right?

3. Change One Of Your Colleague’s Wallpaper To Something That Is Funny

While doing so you must ensure two things. First and foremost, the wallpaper that you put on must not be offensive in nature. Secondly, the colleague whose wallpaper you are changing must be someone who is cool with the idea of pranking. Do not go for someone who is easily offended. This little act if done right will not only lighten your mood but it will also send out waves of laughter to everyone else in the office.

4. Organize Outings Beyond Office Hours

One of the best ways to lighten your mood at work is by having a cordial relationship with your colleagues. The best way to build such a relationship is to engage in fun activities together. Now we understand that it may not be possible for you to engage in such fun activities during working hours. Hence it is a good practice to organize outings once in a while wherein all of you go out and have fun together. This will strengthen the bond that you people share.

5. Take Frequent Breaks

Many people are of the belief that a desk job is less taxing than a physical one. This is far from being true. A desk job often leads a person to remain exhausted at work. The best way to deal with the same is to take frequent breaks. With proper planning you will be amazed to see how breaks to the washroom or the ones you take to fill your water bottle can lighten your mood.

6. Set Small Term Work Goals

Most of the times the goals or targets that your boss sets out for you are long term in nature. To lighten your mood, what you can do is to break up those goals into a number of small ones. Each time you achieve a goal you can applaud yourself and treat yourself to something nice. The ‘something nice' may be the break we discussed in the previous point or some 5 minutes of Facebook surfing or something of the likes. You will be amazed to see the amount of positivity this small gesture on your part will usher in your life.

7. Listen To Music

It is a well-acclaimed fact that nothing can elevate a person's good as much as good music can. Hence what you can do at work is to put on those earphones and hum in your tune. You will be amazed to see your productivity shoot up and your mood take a turn for the better. In fact if you initiate this practice, I am sure that very soon your colleagues will catch on and this might give you access to the playlist of a diverse variety of people which in turn will improve your taste in music as well.
