Principles of NEP 2020

• To recognize, identify, and foster the unique skill levels of each student
• To give highest priority to achieve foundational literacy of all students by Grade 3
• Flexibility for learners to choose their career path according to their talents and interests
• Emphasis on concept-based understanding rather than learning just for exams
• To encourage logical and reasoning-based decision making and innovation
• To uphold the values such as equality, scientific temper, liberty and justice
• To promote the power of language in teaching and learning
• To focus on regular formative assessment for learning instead of the summative assessment
• To use technology extensively in teaching and learning
• To respect the diversity and respect for the local context in all curriculum

Vision of the Policy

The vision of the NEP 2020 is to instill among the students a pride in being Indian not only in thought but also in spirit, intellect and deeds. The policy will develop knowledge, skills and values that will bring commitment to human rights, sustainable development and living, thus reflecting a truly global citizen.

Initiatives to Improve the Quality of Education

Presently, several initiatives are being undertaken to improve the quality of education. Foremost among them is Samagra Shiksha, which is a centrally sponsored scheme for school education that aims to ensure quality education at all levels of school education. To improve the quality of higher education, various schemes are being implemented: Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), Scheme for promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC), Impacting Research, Innovation & Technology (IMPRINT), Global Initiative for Academics Network (GIAN), Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), National Digital Library, Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM), UchhatarAvishkarAbhiyan, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Impactful Research in Social Sciences (IMPRESS), Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA), National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). UGC and AICTE have also undertaken a number of initiatives to improve the quality in higher and technical education.
