How To Prepare For The Indian Navy SSR Sailor Exam

Vying for defence jobs is not new in our country. Every year, all the defences forces in India issue recruitment notifications for various posts that include the post of officers. Recently, the Indian Navy has released a recruitment notification for the enrolment of Sailors for Senior Secondary Recruits (SSR). Candidates who qualified in 10+2 with maths and physics as majors along with one of these subjects - chemistry, biology or computer science - are invited to apply. Candidates can apply online until June 15, 2018.

Candidates who are selected for the SSR course will commence the training in February 2019. One will undergo 22 weeks basic training at INS Chilka followed by professional training in the allotted trade in various naval training establishments. When thousands of candidates are aspiring to pursue this course, one should start their preparations before the online application closes. Here are the tips to prepare for the Sailor post.

The candidates will be selected based on the written test and physical fitness test. The question paper will be the bilingual and objective type. The question paper will be of 10+2 standard and candidates are suggested to visit Indian Navy's official website for the syllabus. The duration of the exam will be one hour. The candidates are required to pass in all sections and with the required aggregate. While coming to the physical fitness test (PFT), it consists of a 1.6 km run to be completed in 7 minutes, 20 squat-ups (uthak baithak) and 10 push-ups.

Prior to the preparation, aspirants should meticulously assess the syllabus mentioned in the Indian Navy's official website (www.joinindiannavy.gov.in). Know about the test pattern and type of questions that appear in the exam. After careful understanding, start your subject-wise preparations.

Opt For Subject-wise Preparations

It is the best method and is suggested because candidates are required to pass in all sections and with the required aggregate. While preparing, make a note or highlight the important points that help you during the last phase of the preparation.

Focus On General Knowledge

  • Science: Kinematics, energy and power, motion of system, thermodynamics, electrostatics, oscillations, electromagnetic, current electricity, electromagnetic waves, organic chemistry, computer science and human diseases
  • Mathematics: Logarithms, complex numbers, equations, trigonometry, circles, permutations and combinations, logarithmic series, statistics, probability function, binomial theorems, matrices and definite integrals
  • English: Correction of sentences, active to passive, punctuations, synonyms and antonyms, compound prepositions and use of adjectives
  • General Knowledge: Freedom movement, mountains, ports, championships, current affairs, national languages, flags, capital & currencies, abbreviations, eminent personalities, authors and coding & decoding
