Vying for defence jobs is not new in our country. Every year, all the defences forces in India issue recruitment notifications for various posts that include the post of officers. Recently, the Indian Navy has released a recruitment notification for the enrolment of Sailors for Senior Secondary Recruits (SSR). Candidates who qualified in 10+2 with maths and physics as majors along with one of these subjects - chemistry, biology or computer science - are invited to apply.
Candidates who are selected for the SSR course will commence the training. One has to undergo 22 weeks of basic training at INS Chilka followed by professional training in the allotted trade in various naval training establishments. The candidates will be selected based on the written test and physical fitness test. The question paper will be the bilingual and objective type. The question paper will be of 10+2 standard and candidates are suggested to visit Indian Navy's official website for the syllabus. The duration of the exam will be one hour. The candidates are required to pass in all sections and with the required aggregate. While coming to the physical fitness test (PFT), it consists of a 1.6 km run to be completed in 7 minutes, 20 squat-ups (uthak baithak) and 10 push-ups.
