Army Public School Recruitment 2018: Preparation Tips For PGT, TGT And PRT

The Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), has released a recruitment notification for the post of Post Graduate Teachers (PGT), Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) and Primary Teacher (PRT) at Army Public Schools (APS). The notification was released for around 8,000 vacancies and the shortlisted candidates will be placed at 137 Army Public Schools across cantonments and military stations in India.

The online registration window is still active for the recruitment of PGT, TGT and PRT at Army Public Schools (APS). Candidates with BEd degree can apply for the posts. However, CTET/ TET conducted by state governments is mandatory for TGT/ PRT. The competition for the army teacher recruitment exam will be huge as the number of vacancies is approximately 8,000. Selection Procedure

The selection of the candidates for the PGT, TGT and PRT will be based on three stages namely, screening exam, interview and evaluation of teaching skills and computer proficiency. In order to qualify for interview and evaluation of teaching skills, the candidates have to pass a screening examination which will be conducted on November 17 and 18, 2018.

Exam Pattern For Screening

The screening test will be conducted online in the multiple-choice question format. It consists of Part A and B. Part A tests the candidates on general awareness, mental ability, English comprehension, educational concepts and methodology. Part B tests specific to the subject. The screening test for PGT and TGT is same. However, there will be no Part B for PRT. The duration of the exam is three hours for PGT/ TGT and one hour thirty minutes for PRT.

The score will be normalised to 100 though the test is conducted for 180 marks for PGT/ TGT. There will be negative marking and 1/4 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. Both Part A and B will be available together and aspirants have the freedom to answer questions in the order they prefer. However, to qualify for a post, a candidate must score minimum 50 % marks in each part.

General Awareness

General awareness is one of the biggest scoring areas for the candidates. Though the syllabus is huge for the general awareness, one can crack the questions with strategic preparation. The general awareness subject consists of Indian history, Indian polity, Indian geography, general science and current affairs.

The subject-specialisation is not required to answer the general awareness questions. Candidates are advised to pick any book of their choice for general awareness such as Lucent General Knowledge to master the topics.

Mental Ability

Candidates can get a perfect score in this section. This section requires a lot of practice along with critical thinking skills. One has to be strong in mathematical concepts such as averages, ratios, LCM, percentages, simple interest and compound interest. Practise is the only way to score well in this section. We suggest you practise solving questions while preparing concepts. Aspirants are suggested to be strong in the tables and mensuration besides relationship between numbers.

English Comprehension

It tests the candidates' language proficiency such as grammar, prepositions and vocabulary. Candidates are advised to familiarize themselves with all the grammar rules to score well in the test. Try to learn some new synonyms and antonyms because more than three questions are asked in English comprehension. Reading editorials in the newspaper will help you a lot with the reading comprehension section.

Explore Sample Question Papers

Sample question papers or previous years' question papers are the best sources for preparation. Candidates can access the sample question papers which are available on the official website. However, candidates need to pay INR 100 for each part. Once the payment is successful, the soft copy will be available for downloading.
