The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released an important notice about organizing the CBSE Reading Challenge 2020. The Board has started the challenge to prepare the students to get familiar with the 21st century competencies of communication, critical and creative thinking and problem solving. The CBSE Reading Challenge 2019-20 will promote reading literacy among learners. Students from Class 8 to 10 can participate for free in the CBSE Reading Challenge 2020. One who stands out in the challenge will be awarded the appreciation certificate by the Board. CBSE Reading Challenge Details

Students would engage with a variety of texts (graphic, texts with/ without words) and assessed based on following competencies.

  • Ability to read with accuracy and process text in order to understand it
  • Ability to read with comprehension
  • Ability to construct meaning by retrieving information, relating text with their previous knowledge and integrating information
  • Ability to interpret information and draw inference
  • Ability to reflect and evaluate to assess the quality and credibility of text.

CBSE Reading Challenge Eligibility

Round 1: All students of class 8 to 10 in affiliated schools of CBSE are eligible for CBSE Reading Challenge 2020.
Round 2: The best six students from each affiliated school registered after the first stage.

CBSE Reading Challenge Test Pattern

The CBSE Reading Challenge test would focus on both speed and accuracy. The question paper consists of reading tasks 5-8 passages, each passage followed by objective type questions. One who correctly answers the paper in the shortest duration of time will be selected.

CBSE Reading Challenge 2020 Dates

The registration process will be held in the respective schools for Round One/First stage from January 13 to January 22, 2020. The test will be held between January 23 and 25, 2020. Schools should register the names of best six students in round one and pay Rs. 1200/- (Rs.200/- for each student) by logging in through the online link between January 27 to February 2, 2020. The computer-based reading test would be conducted by the Board for the registered students between February 4 to 7, 2020.
