Deccan Education Society's Willingdon College, Sangli was popularly known as Willingdon College, Sangli was established on 22nd June 1919 and managed by Deccan Education Society, 1884 and registered on 13th August 1885. DEC running their 125th-year education journey successfully.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
 
The college is affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 1st November 1956 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B++" Grade (in 1st Cycle) on 16th February 2004.

The aim of the college is to pursue excellence and constantly amplify their knowledge creating and deliver performance through continual development, test, use and improvement of innovative, value-adding learning systems.

Willingdon College, Sangli, is a college named after the former Governor of Bombay, The 1st Baron Willingdon (who was later created The 1st Marquess of Willingdon).

Lord Willingdon later served as Viceroy of India, from 1931 until 1936. The college was started on the morning of June 22, 1919, in the Sangli City.

During this period, Centers of higher education and colleges were rare. With the establishment of the Willingdon College, the students in Southern Maharashtra and from the districts of Belgaum, Dharwad, Karwar, and Bijapur were greatly benefited.

The institute is situated in the Vishrambag area of Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation, roughly midway between the twin cities of Miraj and Sangli.

It is co-educational, Constituent College, providing a regular course which is located in the urban part of Sangli played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
 
The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government.

The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

At present, the college offers two years intermediate courses in Arts, Science, & Minimum Competency Vocational Courses with various optional specializations under Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Pune.

The college also offers three years undergraduate & two years postgraduate courses in Arts, & Science streams with optional specializations under Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It also offers Add-On Certificate courses.
