Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration, Manipal was established in 1986. It is administered by Dr. TMA Pai Foundation. Since July 2003, it has been a constituent institute of Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

In 1987, the foundation of the college collaborated with the hotel division of ITC Ltd., Welcomgroup and the WGSHA institute was founded.

WGSHA is self-affiliated to Manipal University, Manipal. The institute is recognized by the International Hotel Association (IHA), Paris and also by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.

WGSHA was re-accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA score 3.30 on a 4 point scale in the second cycle) in 2016.

It has also been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and International Accreditation Organization (IAO). WGSHA has been awarded the ISO 9001:2008 & ISO 14001:2004 Certification. It is under the administration of the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India.

It is an institute that aims at offering education in the best possible way to students who want to enter the hospitality industry. The Council of Hotel, Restaurant Institutional Education (CHRIE) listed WGSHA as the first Indian Hotel Management Institute. WGSHA was transferred to Manipal University in the academic year 2003-2004.

WGSHA offers a B.A. degree in culinary arts. It also offers postgraduate, undergraduate, specialization programmes, add-on certificate courses, diploma and a postgraduate diploma in hotel management.

The four-year degree course that the institute offers in hotel management comprises of various subjects: hotel accounting, human research development, dynamics of human resource, marketing management, financial management and business law.

Among the south zone hotel management colleges, WGSHA has found a place among the private hotel management colleges. It has also secured a position among the top fifty colleges of hotel management.

Students who want to take admission to this college must have scored fifty percent marks in class XII. Candidates are given admission based on their performance in a written test, followed by a group discussion and an interview.
