West Guwahati College of Education, Kamrup was established in 1992. It is one of the premier institution established in response to the demand of Pandu-Maligaon, Jalukbari, Dharapur, Tetelia, Baragaon, Gotanagar and entire Western part of the city.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and recognized by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).

Accordingly, a Sponsoring Body headed by Dr. M. Barthakur, M.A., B.Sc.(Hons), Ph.D., Retd. Professor of Gauhati University, Guwahati and Sri Sreemanta Sarker, M.A., B.Ed., the Principal of Bidyamandir H.S. School as Secretary was formed on 1St April,1992 to initiate the move for establishing a College of Education i.e., B.Ed. College at Pandu, with permission from Gauhati University, Guwahati.

On 5th April, 2008 West Guwahati College of Education has instituted Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahati Stuy Centre which caters to the need of the educationally deprived individuals from various walks of life introducing BPP and BA courses.

West Guwahati College of Education aims to "Shower the Amrit of Knowledge". The main focus of the institution is to grow professionalism and commitment among the student-trainees who are going to be a teacher in future. Its prime aim is to be leader in the area as a teacher institution maintaining high values and collaborative attitude among student trainees.

The institute offers one year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course for those who have completed there graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Students here are admitted who completed there graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks in eligibility for admission.

Various teaching and learning techniques are being used by the faculty to impart knowledge and skills to students at West Guwahati College of Education, Kamrup in its various departments.
