VSSD College, Kanpur was established in 1921. Its  affiliation from Allahabad University, Allahabad.

by Brahmavart Sanatan Dharm Mahamandal under the guardianship of Rai Bahadur Babu Vikramajit Singh. From its very inception, the college was famous as a college of commerce to award Diploma in commerce and was affiliated to Bombay University.

In 1923 the college got affiliation from Allahabad University, Allahabad University to award the degree of Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com.). The classes for Bachelor's and Master's degree in different other subjects began in 1925.

Later in 1927 the college was affiliated to Agra University and L.L.B. classes started. B.Sc. classes were started in 1956 whereas the M.Sc. classes began in 1964. Since 1967, the college is affiliated to C.S.J.M.University Kanpur.

The college presently runs various study programs under sixteen departments of six different faculties, namely, Arts, Commerce, Science, Teacher Education. Law and Physical Education. This college has also evolved as a study center for distance education affiliated to U.P. Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Allahabad.

The study center provides teaching assistance to the students registered in Diploma Courses like Journalism, Tourism, Financial Accounting, B.Lib., M.B.A. etc. For the computer training of students, an "O" level computer course affiliated to DOEACC is conducted round the year in the College campus. The certification for the course is issued by CSJM University, Kanpur.
