Vellamal College of Engineering and Technology (VCET), Madurai was established in 2007.

The college is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to Anna University, Thirunelveli and Anna University of Technology, Madurai.

The college has a well established infrastructure with 162 experienced faculty members of which 40 are Doctorates and 51 are pursuing their Ph.D. Research and Development is given much importance in the college. The total research grant received from funding agencies like AICTE, DST, DRDO, MNRE, MSME and ISRO is Rs. 487.45 Lakhs.

The college has excelled in academics consistently. It has produced 45 University Ranks in UG (2012-16) and 13 University Ranks in PG (2014-2016 Batch). Placement is also given due importance in the college. Velammalians got placed in leading companies like ZOHO, Juspay, CODA Global, Sirius Technologies, Maveric Systems, Amazon, WIPRO, EmbedUR Systems, Amphisoft, Elitists, Smacar, Urjanet, VVDN, infoview, Solaris, Saint Gobain,Visual BI, MBIT Wireless, Sundaram Clayton, Infosys, Sify Technologies, Pfizer (ICU), GSS Verizon, Paypal, Byjus, Neeyamo, Positive Naick, ZoomRx, Virtusa, Karomi Technologies. Directl. Alight solutions, eLitmus. Torry Harris, Abyeti, CTS, Anarock, HPE, ClusterX, Sanmar, and Wheels India in the proceeding years.

Students who excel both in academics and in sports are honoured during the college day. So far Rs. 6,37,220/- worth cash prizes are won by the students in various competitions and the prize amount is equally given to the students during the college day. Students who stand first in academics are awarded with cash prizes. Facult who produce centum results are appreciated with the cash prize of Rs. 2000/- per paper & for those faculty whoc produce 95% of results are given Rs. 1000/-. The total prize amount received by the faculty members so far is Rs. 7,32,200/-.
