Veer Kunwar Singh University (VKSU), Ara was established in 1992.

Veer Kunwar Singh University, Arrah named after the well-known national hero and legendary freedom fighter Veer Kunwar Singh is a public university in the city of Arrah in the state of Bihar, India. One of the pioneer universities across the country, the V. K. S. University with its focus on providing value-based quality education to its students was established by the Bihar Universities Act 1976 (As Amended Act 9 of 1992) in the year 1992 and is recognized under University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. The aim of the University is to help students to become well-rounded individuals who can think critically and imaginatively about the present-day issues and the challenges from multiple perspectives, communicate effectively and become leaders with a commitment to public service. The education here carries a strong emphasis on foundational knowledge, thorough academic research based on rigorous pedagogy, and hands-on experience with real, societal challenges. The students in campus, drawn from the various states of the country, receive interdisciplinary education through the newly implemented Choice Based Credit System at the post-graduate programme level run by the University.

In the various post-graduate programmes offered by the University, the students are trained both, on how to face the contemporary challenges in the present socio-economic scenario as well as, how to find a sustainable solution through research-based rigorous analysis to emerging as highly qualified, competent and effective leaders.

Its jurisdiction covers four western educationally backward districts of Bihar [Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur & Rohtas].

It serves the educational needs of more than one crore population of these districts through its 20 University Post Graduate Departments, 17 Constituent Degree Colleges, three Law Colleges and forty seven affiliated Degree Colleges.
