Smt. Allum Sumangalamma Memorial College for Women, Ballari was also known as V.V.Sangha's Smt. A.S.M. College for Women, Ballari was established on 14th September 1969 under the management of Veerasaiva Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Ballari which was established in 1916.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
 
Since its inception, the college was affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad from 1969-1981 and continued its affiliation with Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi from 1981-2004.

In the year 2004, the college got re-affiliated to Akkamahadevi Women's University, Vijayapura (Formerly known as Karnataka State Women's University, Vijayapura) and is continued till date.

It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 14th September 1969 under Act, 1956 and re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.67 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 30th November 2011.

The college was established in 1969 with the motto of "Women Education and Empowerment‟ which was almost unknown to the Womankind of North-Karnataka region. The college has generated a plethora of highlightable pupils who have secured the highest positions in all fields and trades and have displayed themselves as the best part of the society and nation.

The college was started with strength of 164 students in the beginning and presently it can boast of 1400 students. It is a full-fledged College with U.G. Programme in Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Computer Science and Computer Application & P.G. Programme in M.Com.

It's goodwill stands on the consistent securing of good results and ranks. Consequently, it has become synonymous with academic excellence. It has the research oriented and highly qualified competent teachers with doctoral degrees.
