Kottureshwara College, Kottur (Dist. Ballari) was also known as V. V. Sangha's Kottureshwara Degree College was established on 31st July 1967 under the management of Veerashaiva Vidyavardhaka (V.V.) Sangha (R).
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
The college was inaugurated by Shri G.S. Pathak the then Governor of Mysore state. It was affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad till 1980 and then to Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi till 2010 and at present, it affiliated with Vijayanagara Sri Krisnadevaraya University, Ballari.
The college is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 22nd August 1969 under Act, 1956 and re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.12 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 30th November 2011.
Kottureshwara College is the first rural college of Ballari district and is located on an elevated and open space area of 13 acres, donated by a great philanthropist and staunch Gandhi follower Sri K.S. Eswaragoud.
It was started with few students and now attracting more than a thousand students. The college introduces technical, professional and management courses like Computer Science, Electronics, Education and M. Com., in addition to the traditional courses B.A., B.Com, and B.Sc. It encourages co-educational system.
Despite, being rural college and constraints in many aspects, the college offers ten courses in Science, Arts, Commerce at U.G. and P.G.
The curriculum is designed by the affiliated University, however, the senior professors from all the departments are the members of BOS, contributing their experience in revising the syllabus on a need basis. Also, career oriented courses such as Electronics, Computer science, Education introduced along with conventional courses.
Recently, the college has introduced optional English for B.A.
The students are at liberty to opt elective courses according to their ability, taste, and preference.
B.Com. course with elective papers of Financial Management, Income-tax, Cost account and Industrial Economics etc. cover the need of the commerce field. There are four combinations for B.A. & B.Sc. with needed specializations.
Realizing the need of multilingual structure of the region, the college has provided an opportunity to opt different languages in noncore optional. Specialization in Accounting & taxation has also been introduced for M.com.
