Utkalmani Gopabandhu Mahavidyalaya, Khamar was established in 1981.

This institution is situated in an economically and educationally backward area of Central Orissa, lying by the National Highway No.23.

Initially started as an intermediate Arts College in the auspices of Utkalmani Gopabandhu Uchha Vidyapeetha, the institution was soon shifted to its present location surrounded by sal and mahua trees giving an air of a gurukul ashram.

The Degree classes were started in the year 1984 and the college got affiliated to the Utkal University. In the year 1994, the college got recognition by the UGC and became eligible to receive grants under sections 2f and 12b.

The intermediate Science classes were also started in the same year.
